In April 2026, Pakistan has sent a substantial military force to Saudi Arabia, which includes advanced Chinese-made equipment, as part of a historic Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed in September 2025.
The deployment marks the first time Pakistani-owned, Chinese-manufactured assets have been stationed in the Saudi for active regional deterrence.

The deployed JF-17s are equipped with Chinese PL-15E
Pakistan is also deploying Chinese-made air defence systems, specifically the ly-80 and FM-90, to bolster Saudi protection against drone and missile strikes.
This move is part of a broader security guarantee where Pakistan has pledged to treat any attack on Saudi Arabia as an attack on its own territory

Pakistan is employing similar strategies to safeguard Saudi Arabia, tactics that the US utilized to protect the kingdom several decades ago.

The initial fear was instilled by Israel, but it has since shifted to Iran.

Under U.S. protection, Saudi Arabia’s oil sales were denominated in U.S. dollars, with the proceeds used to purchase U.S. Treasury bills or invest in the stock market.

Pakistan is now making its first move in the Kingdom and will assess the situation before deciding on its next steps.
