British Foreign Secretary’s remarks on Hong Kong’s remarks were maddened. Official media: The Lonely Empire wants to find a sense of existence.

"In the past, it was impossible to threaten Beijing with the future of Hong Kong. It is even more impossible today."
"Please come to tell Jeremy Hunter personally: Britain no longer rules the ocean." In response to the British Foreign Secretary Hunter repeatedly arguing on the Hong Kong issue, the British "Guardian" unrelentedly dismantled Hunter on the 4th. The "imperial impulse" of the flow. The article believes that Hunter does not really care about the Hong Kong issue. His toughness in the Chinese show is nothing more than a sense of existence and a desire to win the Conservative Party. In the face of the fact that lawless violent attacks on the Hong Kong Legislative Council, Hunter does not condemn the violent elements, but threatens that China may face "serious consequences." This naked double standard is simply "open-minded." What is the so-called "serious consequences"? Hunter said in an interview on the 4th that "retain various options."
It is a pity that Hunter’s trick did not catch China, but the British media was scared first. The British "Times" admitted in the article on the 5th that any country, including the United Kingdom, would seek to arrest people who looted the legislature. The British "Daily Telegraph" said that the crisis created by Hunter may be bad news for British exports. The article quoted experts as saying that Britain is leaving the European Union, and China is stronger than ever. Now Britain needs China more, not the other way around.
"Now the UK needs China more"
"He is more willing to expand his chances of becoming a leader of the Conservative Party than to face the fact that Britain lacks influence in Hong Kong." The Guardian newspaper article on the 4th said that it is very obvious that Hunter’s remarks have nothing to do with Hong Kong. On the occasion of competing with Boris Johnson for the throne of the Prime Minister, Hunt wanted to "stand up" and show his strengths. He wants to show that he can talk on the world stage and even shake the mountains, and Johnson can only move several bicycle lanes in London. The article ridiculed that Hunter’s intervention was counterproductive and that it would be ridiculous for China to change its policy because someone on the other side of the globe is madly pushing for their career development. What does Hunter mean by "serious consequences"? Will he send an aircraft carrier?
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt (Source: Xinhua News Agency)
What is the “serious consequence”? Will it impose sanctions on China or expel Chinese diplomats? In an interview on the 4th, in the face of the BBC reporter's questioning, Hunt did not give a positive answer, but said that he would not discuss any potential consequences, "of course, will retain various options." He said that the foreign minister will not specify what measures are in place. This is what the former US President Bill Clinton called "strategic vagueness."
In an interview on the 2nd, Hunter said that the Sino-British Joint Declaration is still legally binding and will have serious consequences if it is not fulfilled. This remark was strongly criticized by China. This time, Hunter did not forget to add a few words, arguing that both his personal and British government condemned any form of violence, and he did not support violence. However, Hunter "warned China not to suppress the protesters", otherwise the UK would not "swallow this breath."
Hunting for China in succession through the issue of Hong Kong, Hunt's approach is triggering more and more concerns from the British media. The British "Daily Telegraph" said on the 4th that when Hunter issued a warning, the United Kingdom was looking for new friends before leaving the European Union. Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom, said that the British intervention in Hong Kong has already damaged Sino-British relations. This export to the UK may be bad news. Twenty years ago, China ranked only 15th on the UK's trading partners list. Today China is the 4th, accounting for 7.5% of the UK's total trade. China's growing financial influence has also made it an important investor in major UK infrastructure projects.
Liu Xiaoming
Kerry Brown, director of the China Institute at King's College London, said: "As we seek to exit the EU, China is increasingly important to the UK." The UK is China's number one destination for direct investment in Europe, leaving the UK in Brexit. After that, the UK will need to continue to attract funds from China. Brown warned that "China is stronger than ever, and China has a greater significance to the UK... Now Britain may need China more, not China."
The BBC said that the danger of this war of words is that it may affect a wider range of bilateral relations and endanger the strategic trade interests of the UK and China. This benefit has become even more important after the Brexit. The British "Times" said in an editorial on the 5th that it is wise to recognize that any country, including the United Kingdom, will seek to arrest people who have looted the legislature. Hunter’s threat of “serious consequences” seems to be overstated and undermines his own credibility. On the 3rd, Hunter also posted a Trump-style "information for the Chinese government" on Twitter, which is more like a sensationalism, for the domestic people, rather than a serious diplomatic means.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yan Shuang criticized Hunter on the 3rd "it seems to be still immersed in the illusion of the former British colonists." The Guardian’s comments also hold the same view. The article said that when Hunter went to his office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he would go through some magnificent paintings and sculptures that show off the miracles that the British Empire brought to the earth. "Those paintings say that we used to rule the world." But now Hong Kong is not British and has nothing to do with Hunt. More than 20 years ago, the British returned it to China. However, for people like Hunt, the imperialist impulse seems to never calm down.
Politically speculative "chameleon"
Before the show to China, Hunter was known to the Chinese mainly for two things: First, he was a "Chinese son-in-law"; second, he competed with Johnson. On the 22nd of this month, the two will be finalized. In the showdown, the winner will become the leader of the Conservative Party and replace Teresa May as the British Prime Minister.
Jeremy Hunt (data map)
In fact, Hunter has also shown political speculative side, such as his position on the issue of Brexit. In the UK's 2016 referendum on the Brexit, Hunter was originally a member of the European Union and also asked for a second referendum. But then, as the situation changed, Hunter turned to support Brexit. Asked by the media, Hunter said that he thought that Brexit would affect the British economy, but later felt that this worry was wrong, and he felt "the arrogance of the European Commission" in the negotiations with the EU. At the Conservative Party meeting last October, in order to please the Brexit hard-line faction, Hunter criticized the EU as "very arrogant like the Soviet Union of the past" and angered many people in Brussels.
According to the BBC, Hunt said at the time that if the Brussels side punishes Britain with an uncompromising Brexit agreement, European leaders may turn the EU into a "prison", while other countries will want to leave the "prison." The British "New Politicians" previously said that due to his pragmatism, the instinct to survive in the official arena and the willingness to adapt to the changing environment, Hunter's critics in the British Parliament compared him to the "chameleon."
In order to seek the upper ranks, Hunter not only used the Hong Kong issue to "touch porcelain" in China, but also recently actively voiced on various international issues and brushed the sense of existence. On the 4th, the British Marine Corps seized an Iranian tanker in the Strait of Gibraltar. Hunter first issued a special statement: Congratulations on the "heroic move" taken by the British Marine Corps to implement sanctions against Syria. Their swift action made The Bashar regime lost valuable resources. On the 5th, Hunter again accused Venezuela of the human rights situation on Twitter, and it was a bit of a gesture.
It is not uncommon for people like Hunter to hold the "Imperial Illusion" in the UK. In February of this year, the then British Defense Minister Williamson declared that he would send him to the South China Sea as soon as the "Elisabeth Queen" aircraft carrier officially entered the deployment state. This statement immediately caused controversy, and some people ridiculed that they were engaged in "old gunboat diplomacy."
China is less likely to be threatened today
Hunter’s arrogant interference also caused criticism from some Hong Kong media. Hong Kong's "Oriental Daily" said on the 5th that Prince Charles left the port on the "Great Britain", 22 years later is still the Crown Prince, Queen Elizabeth II is still in place. In the eyes of some British people, the world seems to have stopped, and it is still the old "Imperial Empire", and the colony bowed to the court. To a certain extent, they are not wrong. The United States is still bullying everywhere. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains unresolved... but China’s pace of development has never been seen before. "In the past, it was impossible to threaten Beijing with the future of Hong Kong. It is even more impossible today."
Hong Kong's "South China Morning Post" published an article published by London School of Economics scholar Hammond on the 5th. In recent years, the Conservative government has increasingly believed that improving relations with Beijing is in the interest of the UK. This turmoil has cooled down the UK-China relationship, which is a headache for China and a bigger challenge for the UK.
According to a Hong Kong "Bus Report", Hunter’s statement is like disguised identification of violent demonstrations in Hong Kong. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yu Shuang responded very well, saying that when Britain ruled Hong Kong, there was no democracy. He also asked Hunter: "If the British Parliament is besieged and destroyed, will the British government sit idly by? Does it also think that the British police are dealing with the riots in London in August 2011?" The politicians are like this, double standards. The mouth is wrong. Hunter is competing for the position of the British Prime Minister. His attitude toward China has suddenly become radical and he wants to raise public opinion.
The article also stated that an Englishman named Peter Bentley spoke some ordinary people's opinions in an interview outside the Hong Kong Legislative Council. Bentley has lived in Hong Kong for 35 years. He said that most of the people who rushed into the Legislative Council were thugs and saboteurs, and they were specifically fighting for the police. If the demonstrators of the night faced riot squads in Western democracies such as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and Germany, they would use real bullets instead of rubber bullets.
On the 5th, the Eastern Magistrates' Court of Hong Kong tried to surround the Hong Kong Police Headquarters and attack the Legislative Council. A 31-year-old man was accused of participating in the Hong Kong Police Headquarters on June 21 and the Hong Kong Legislative Council Building on July 1. He was arrested on July 3 and was charged with "attacking police", "criminal destruction" and "in the public." Local behavior is not detected" crime. At present, the judge will postpone the case until August 2 and will not be released on bail. This was the first person involved in the lawsuit after the violent incident. Some Hong Kong media said that after the mob attacked the Legislative Council, the police had arrested 22 violent elements.

I still remember the former British Secretary of Defense, Gavin Williamson, who had been "distracted" to China but was degraded by the whole of Britain.
Today, Gavin can be described as "a successor."
This person is not someone else. It is the current British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Perhaps you have noticed that for a period of time, Hunter has repeatedly pointed out the issue of China's domestic affairs in Hong Kong affairs, and even hesitated to release "speaking words" to China.
All kinds of ridiculous words and deeds not only allowed Hunter to obtain the "honor" that was repeatedly criticized by the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also suffered a consistent siege in the UK.
After warning that China will face "serious consequences," Hunter suffers
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yan Shuang’s voice on the 3rd of July at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Hunter’s “lettering the mouth and the yellow eyes”. In less than 24 hours, Hunter confirmed the above evaluation with practical actions.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on July 4th, Hunter once again made a big rumor about Hong Kong affairs, not only clamoring that the United Kingdom would not "swallow up" and even warned that China might face "serious consequences."
It is worth pondering that despite the repeated interviews by the host in the interview, Hunter has never said what the “serious consequences” mean.
He pretending to be mysteriously said: As a foreign minister, it is unwise to say how serious the consequences will be before the incident occurs.
“It is necessary to maintain strategic ambiguity,” he said.
This far-fetched explanation clearly does not have any persuasive power to the audience.
In a commentary on the day, the BBC pointed out that Hunter’s threat was not clear about the specific measures. “Because there are very few diplomatic or economic cards in the UK, and Hunter does not want to provoke the possibility. Further damage the subsequent conflicts in Sino-British relations."
The British "Guardian" in this July 4 report satirically guessed: What exactly does Hunter threaten China to face the "serious consequences"? Will he send an aircraft carrier?
In fact, to make the British media and netizens very angry, there is another conversation in the interview:
The BBC host asked "Do you know how China responded?" and in the face of Hunter, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yu Shuang’s speech at the regular press conference on July 3: "He seems to I was still immersed in the illusion of the former British colonists, and I was obsessed with the condescending vices of his country’s affairs."
After listening to this retelling, Hunter said that he is still a staunch supporter of Sino-British friendship.
However, the moderator did not pick up his embarrassment, but bluntly: Honestly, we have no real coping mechanism in the face of the consequences.
It is also this bluffing and contradictory "performance" that makes British netizens completely unable to see it:
The whole UK is worried about Hunter’s "scorpion" to China.
Despite his face with the BBC, Hunter insisted on his "faith" of "friendship between China and Britain."
But the facts are clearly moving in the opposite direction of his hopes - as Liu Xiaoming pointed out at the Chinese and foreign press conference on July 3, "China-UK relations have been damaged to some extent by the British intervention in Hong Kong affairs."
And Hunt’s irresponsible speech to China has obviously smashed the British domestic media.
