The Chinese military has drawn two lines of defence against USA: the "First Island Chain," which stretches from Okinawa's main island to the South China Sea......................

and the "Second Island Chain," which extends as far east as Tokyo and Guam. The Chinese navy already has the ability to control most of the waters inside the First Island Chain, and it has stepped up military exercises in the western Pacific.

I suggest Singapore stop acting as USA's running dog in the light of the changing geo-political situation...... It does not pay to rely on a fading Superpower.......

China's strategy in the Pacific, dubbed Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD), is based on its First and Second Island Chain concept.

It is now common for Chinese navy vessels to sail beyond the Second Island Chain. "We dispatch intelligence-gathering vessels to waters off the coast of Hawaii to collect electronic intelligence from the U.S. Pacific Fleet," a Chinese military source said.

China shows no sign of becoming less assertive in disputed waters in the East China and South China seas, and it looks set to test the US in the Pacific. During an official visit to the US last June, Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly told Obama that the vast Pacific Ocean has enough space for both superpowers, indicating China's ambition to be a strategic player in the Pacific on equal terms with the US....

Meanwhile, the puny Pinoy Navy thinks they can slug it out with the Rising Dragon.....

Last week when all attention was focussed on MH 370, the Philippines air-dropped food and water to soldiers posted on a grounded transport ship (Landing Ship Tank 57) on a disputed South China Sea shoal, after China blocked two supply ships from reaching the troops.

Chinese ships patrolling waters around Second Thomas Shoal, known in China as the Ren’ai reef, on Sunday ordered the Philippine ships carrying construction materials to leave the area.
