The parents of a PRC scholar studying in Singapore on scholarship at Raffles Institution are suing Kandang Kerbau Children and Women Hospital (KKCWH) and Dr Chan Mui Yoke for alleged negligence in his care which resulted in his death.

14 year old Cao Yuanchi was admitted to KKCWH last year for multiple bruises on his body and was subsequently diagnosed to have a rare form of leukaemia. He was not started on chemotherapy immediately due to the presence of a bacterial infection and passed away a few days day from massive bleeding in the brain.

The couple argued that Dr Chan should have started chemotherapy given the severity of his condition and the delay in treatment has caused the massive bleeding which is disputed by KKCWH.

In the papers filed in court, the couple is seeking damages of $1.8 million dollars, including the loss of dependency claims. It is not known if the boy is studying in Singapore or MOE or some other scholarship.

KKH’s Head of Paediatric Oncology Professor Tan Ah Moy said all parties are still “discussing” on how the matter can be “amicably resolved.”

i think Dr Chan did the right thing by not starting chemotherapy on that boy "due to the presence of a bacterial infection".
chemotherapy may not kill the bacteria but the bacteria could have killed him immediately if administered during chemo.
then they would also turn around and say Dr Chan killed their boy.
