Electronics malls Sim Lim Square has been in the news recently after a mobile phone shop there tried to refund a Chinese customer $1,010 in coins last week.

The same shop was in the news again this week when a Vietnamese tourist went down on his knees to beg for a refund. He had paid $950 for an iPhone 6, but was stopped from leaving the shop with the phone if he did not pay another $1,500 for "warranty" for the phone.

The Consumer Association of Singapore and the management of Sim Lim Square had put up notices in the mall, listing retailers that had received numerous complaints.

I'm not sure about those backpackers, maybe they saw the recommendation about SLS on travel guides.

However, I'm quite sure tour buses ferry tourists to SLS... just like how other countries bring tourists to shops which sell local produce.

actually, china suppliers are almost the same. sim lim square is also as famous as the 华强北 of shenzhen. SL is the smaller version. in the electronics mall in shenzhen, you can find all kinds of electronics there. SL is well known in the world for electronic gadgets. i remembered i have picked up a mother and her young kid from indonesia, they wanted to go SL to buy iphone 5 then, although they are rich, i told them go funan out of pity. i feel for them cos they reminded me of someone. i know if they proceed to SL, they will end up the carrot head which i will feel sad for them.

did china and vietnam warned them not to become singapore citizens and PRs, otherwise they will leegally robbed on a daily basis??

This is FREE publicity for Spore

No need for the Spore Tourist Promotion Board to waste taxpayers $ promoting Spore.:D

but remember not all shops in SL are bad, just like pap, not all ministars are good pple...:o

I see those iPhones being sold at Mustaffa. Haven't heard of people complaining about getting skammed so must be ok:confused:

That's funny... advice coming from a country known for being the king of counterfeits.

Why the heck do PRCs come to SLS to buy electronics? when 3/4 of the gadgets sold there are from PRC in the first place. As for the internationally branded items, Singapore is actually same price or even more expensive than overseas.

Krafy is right. Here we only have 1 block of SLS. At 华强北 in Shenzhen, there are at least 10 blocks of commercial building similar to SLS selling all kinds of electronic products.

since you said you are a taxi driver, I recommend you to do some side businesses.
you send sell them iphones and bring them to gaylang.
why let other people earn their money? why don you earn them?

if they ask you to bring them to SL.
you shall immediate say: i got iphones, u want?

if they ask you to bring them to geylang
you shall immediately say: sir, i got women also, u want?
