China teen is seen as a hero for killing a local official
Beijing, Jan 22
A Chinese teenager Zhang Xuping killed a local Communist Party official Li Shiming. And he is being touted as a hero, for doing the deed, instead of being labeled as a murderer.
The fellow villagers are very happy with the murder and say that Shiming made their life hell, as he was a big bully for years. He also used to extort money from the hapless villagers, and also used to encroach upon their land too.
“I didn’t feel surprised at all when I heard Li Shiming was killed, because people wanted to kill him a long time ago,” said villager Xin Xiaomei. “I wanted to kill Li myself, but I was too weak.” Her husband was harassed for a number of years by the local official, as both of them had a personal dispute.
Even though Zhang is seen as a local hero, but he is being punished for his crime all the same. He had committed the murder in September 2008, and last week he was sentenced to death for this crime.
His mother and lawyer confirmed the sentence news, on Wednesday. However they filed an appeal against the death sentence, this week. “If the village secretary had acted illegally and aroused the anger of the mass of villagers, then lenient punishment should have been considered by the court,” a lawyer Liu said. “It has become the will of people. The death sentence is too heavy.”
