China says two million new graduates jobless

The China Post

BEIJING -- Almost one in three new Chinese college graduates are unable to find a job, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Citing the Ministry of Education, Xinhua said about two million graduates, or 32 percent of the total of 6.11 million, were without work.

The figure is the highest since the ministry started collecting the data in 1996.

Premier Wen Jiabao has given assurances that the government will do all it can to find jobs for the new graduates.

Zhang Haoming, an official with the ministry, told Xinhua the financial crisis was to blame.

But analysts also point the finger at a massive expansion of college enrollment in recent years: China enrolled 6 million new college students in 2008, up from 1.08 million in 1998.

They also cite the education system's failure to produce graduates with the qualifications and skills that employers need as well as unrealistically high job and salary expectations on the part of some college leavers.

If the majority consist of SYT, then Singapore gladly extend its open arms to welcum them in as Foreign talents for GL..:p:p

sorry , forgot about the mouth... the CV states that, the applicant, is good with her mouth, hands & feet.... ha ha ha ha:D

in my case, i willing gladly take the ass hole if the mouth is not available....:D:D:D:D

Singapore should import these 2 million immediately and with one stroke hit our population target

We should step up building of housing to accommodate these talent immediately

Hope our government won't be too slow in recognising such a wonderful opportunity

500,000units*200,000SD=100billion SD. Exclude multiplier effect. Man this year's GDP hit and exceed it, woohoo! Never mind the traffic, crime and unemployment, security risk (Mas Selamat of every international flavor), it is a quick way to raise civil servants bonus and pays by 50% at least. Yeeha!.

Really, this global economic downturn presents a wonderful opportunity for us to import these PRC graduates and make them feel at home, and allow us to build a strong base for our future

For the next two years, I think 300,000 to 500,000 is very realistic but really have to ramp up building of accommodation - still lots of space in Sengkang and Jurong
