TAIPEI -- Taiwanese Apple supplier Foxconn will start to assemble the iPhone 12 in India, marking the first time the flagship device has been made outside of China.

Apple's new 5G-enabled iPhone will be produced at a factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu that already makes older models.

An estimated 7% to 10% of Chinese production will be relocated to India, which competes with such destinations as Vietnam for job-creating investment from manufacturers spreading their capacity beyond China.

Foxconn declined to comment on the move Wednesday through a spokesperson. Nikkei Asia reported in January that Apple was looking at India and Vietnam as alternative production bases.

Apple contracts all iPhone manufacturing to three Taiwanese companies: Foxconn, which trades as Hon Hai Precision Industry; Pegatron and Wistron. They make about 200 million units a year, with Foxconn accounting for roughly 60% of the total.

Most of the production takes place in China, but Foxconn looks to cut its exposure to the nation's rising labor costs and the impact of Sino-U.S. tensions. The company has been negotiating with Apple to shift capacity out of China.

India has become a prime destination for relocation. As U.S.-China tensions rose last year, the Indian government quickly rolled out incentives for multinationals looking to transfer capacity away from China.

Major smartphone manufacturers will receive annual subsidies equal to 4% to 6% of added sales for the next five years. Pegatron decided last year to expand to India, while Wistron has similar plans. Indian iPhone production is trending upward as a result.

A similar pattern can be seen in Vietnam. Starting this year, Foxconn will make iPads outside of China for the first time in the Southeast Asian nation. Vietnam also will host MacBook production. Pegatron expanded to Vietnam in March 2020.

Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday that Apple has told its suppliers in China and Taiwan that it is cutting orders for all iPhones for the first half of 2021 by around 20% compared to its plans in December, with the majority coming from the iPhone 12 mini, its cheapest 5G-enabled phone.

An analyst told Nikkei that the iPhone 12 mini's small battery was one reason customers are staying away from the phone. 5G phones, like the iPhone 12, generally consume more power.

These fuckeins will be in a world of hurt....fuckeins might be the Cina Ah Neh...but highly unlikely such an arrangement will work well in ah neh land

I told everyone that companies are shifting production out of China, for economic and political reasons.

For Apple, Macbooks are made in Vietnam and Macs are made in Malaysia. But for the jewel on the crown, the iPhone, it will be made in India. The shifting will not be overnight, it will be a drawn-out process.

It doesn't matter where the sweatshops are, as long as they are outside China. For the high tech R&D stuff, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the USA will take care of it.

Sinkieland? Digital 'ambassadors' , Goal 2034, Founder's Memorial, Hub this hub that and similar bullshit.

For the Tiongs, enjoy your soon-to-arrive North Korean life under Supreme Leader Xi. He sincerely believes he can control the world (digital vaccination passports and Sinovac vaccines etc) after a few decades of leeching off the western countries.

India’s one of the largest states, Uttar Pradesh, has confirmed that it will be providing financial incentives to the South Korean giant Samsung Electronics to set up a display factory in the region, which is expected to cost about $655 million.
In a statement given to the media, the state of Uttar Pradesh has claimed that the company is moving its factory from China to India. This is being viewed as a move that will help boost the Make in India initiative that aims to project India as a manufacturing hub.
Samsung Display

Samsung will be getting 7 billion rupees in financial benefits for setting up the display plant. On top of that, the state government has also confirmed that the company will get an exemption from a tax payable on the transfer of land for the factory.
The unit is expected to be operational from next year, but the exact timeline is not yet known. Once the factory starts operations, it is expected to create 510 direct jobs. It’s noteworthy that Samsung already has the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The development comes just months after the Indian government approved financial incentives of around $6.5 billion for 16 countries to boost domestic production of smartphones. The list of companies set to benefit from this includes Samsung, along with Apple suppliers such as Foxconn and Wistron, among others.
Many companies are now looking to India as a potential replacement for China when it comes to manufacturing. Apart from Samsung, several other companies are moving their production to India, including Apple, which is now making several of its products in India is expected to expand the same in the coming months.

Those are nonpaid workers. You wrote like all "people in India breaking and stealing". You don't know what to write then don't

Anyway it’s less than 10% that’s going from China to India no big deal for China

For now.

Screws are tightening elsewhere.

End goals:

1) HKD and RMB will become totally worthless.
2) Regime change of (People's Republic of) China.

What happened to Nazi Germany after WW2, the same will happen to the rank-and-file Chicom party members. They will be hunted down like rabbits all over the world. I wonder how many of them had Sinkieland provided sanctuary for? Not very smart indeed.

I'll just quickly cite one reason why foxconn will fail in India - incompatible labour practices.

Everyone's heard of the Foxconn workers factory towns. These places are run like Auschwitz to keep manpower costs low and operation efficiency high. Workers have to meet strict production KPIs or face penalties. When worker suicides came to light the Apple management had a crisis.

India has powerful unions that will never allow their workers to live under such conditions. Strikes and riots are backed by fanatical political parties like the BJP's thugs Shiv sena and remnants of the ibdian communist league.

Manufacturing requires a disciplined workforce which is contrary to Indians' love for "organised chaos". Just look at how they drive in the cities and you will get it.
