China Bans Snake-bite Chicken Entree

Several restaurants in Guangdong and Chongqing provinces in China have been advertising a dish made from a chicken that was killed by snake bite. The delicacy called “poisonous snake-bitten chicken” is supposed to be detoxing.

A video of process of killing the chicken was circulated and sparked a week of controversy online and in the press.

Now, health authorities in both provinces have stepped in and ordered the eateries to stop serving the dishes.

Chinese traditional medicine believe in using the toxicity of snake venom as a remedy against various aliments. Use of toxicity to jump start the body's immune response is what modern day vaccinations are about.

Snake wine is also popular in Vietnam. In fact snake venom is used in ayurvedic medicine too.

So there is a common theme here. In your example, enterprising busnessmen are taking this concept one step further, and can be dangerous. But it is no different from various miracle diet loss formulas; some of which can be lethal.

The scientific explanation is that vaccination is a preventive treatment, meant to create corresponding anti bodies in the blood.
