Chiam confirms his wife Potong Pasir candidate-successor

The present state of the SPP/SDA says it all. Even a relatively new party dare ask for harsh terms and conditions from SPP, during talks of joining the alliance. No disrespect to his good work in Potong Pasir, but besides that, all these reflects how far Chiam has taken SPP... :(

There's a difference between being a party leader and being an MP. Most MPs do not need to be party leaders, but the few who do (the party leaders I refer to) have a dual role.

Despite having rep in Parliament - an impt criteria treasured by those seeking to join an opposition party - SPP is ranked last in membership size among the active parties. Some even said NSP was better off by itself - with no seat - than to be in an alliance that has a seat. It's like someone losing muscles at regular gym workouts. Chiam or DL or any other must have not done something for this opposite phenomenon to happen.

Guess the hopes for opposition winning GRC or single seats remain small.
and
guess only WP can pull it off...

:o :( :o

Those who have worked with Chiam or know his associates would have realised the serious flaw in his character. His desire to control like the old man has been an issue from the very start. It has surfaced many times. It started with the Chee affair, the veto vote in SDA to repeated fall out with fellow politicians after the 1991 success.

To Chiam, the party CEC holds an administrative role and their highlights would cover housekeeping and resource management.

I recall a bitter and emotional post from the wife of one of his party associate from the 1991 team in the old SBF and it was telling. Note there is no one from the 1991 team with him. Even those left SDP to follow him initially.

If you look at his party, it membership is full of helpers, supporters and do-gooders, rather than aspiring politicians and those that can provide political direction and develop political strategy. I have no doubt that Chiam is politically astute but as a party leader he has little to show.

Funnily he is not alone. JBJ was similar in that respect. Very poor in party matters. To JBJ's credit he at least allowed the CEC to carry out its role.

Mrs Chiam's recent spat with Dr Chee was another indication of character flaw in the Chiam family, Dr Chee & SDP has clarified his stand and already moved on from the incident. However, Mrs Chiam or the Chiam family rather was still very bitter and came out attacking Dr Chee via the press. Knowing the press will use that to the pappies advantage, she still came out aggressively to dig out the old wounds to sow discord between the SPP and SDP. Very disappointed to see that.

However, I salute Dr Chee and SDP in the way that incident was being handled, not allowing it to escalate into another war between SPP and SDP.

PAP have a chance at this seat..

Unless Lina Loh is really popular in Potong Pasir..
Anyone have any idea how well-received she is?

She is popular enough if Chiam is besides her. Wonder how she will do on her own?

Dun think is character flaw....but as a woman politician, she very emotional.
She is just protecting her hubby reputation but fail to see the overall bigger picture.

Being emotional, can be her strength & weakness.
She shouldn't said things without considering the impact tat affecting the opposition.

:o :( :o

In today Chinese papers Chiam announces that his wife Lina Loh will be candidate and successor for Potong Pasir in 2010/2011 election.

A female opposition MP for the first time?
