Forward
After much thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from active practice as a partner of the Davis Polk law firm with effect from July. It is quite clear to me that given my new responsibilities as MP I will not be able to continue practicing law the way I have in the last twenty years. Law is in my blood and no doubt it will be part of my life. Meanwhile, my retirement from the partnership will afford me more time for my family, to serve constituency and country, and to explore alternative work arrangements.

I wish to thank my partners for what I received over the years: their best efforts to aid my professional success and advancement, and the opportunity to use my best faculties to our common benefit. The same goes to our colleagues and clients. I have had many good years with the firm and leave with fond memories and many friendships.

On this new journey for Singapore, to everyone who has in some way extended to me encouragement, support and hope, you have my gratitude for reaffirmation. In many ways, this is as much our journey as it is my journey: let us forge our way forward for a better Singapore for all Singaporeans.

MEMBER of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Mr Chen Show Mao, announced on Friday morning that he had decided to retire from active practice as a partner of the Davis Polk law firm with effect from July.

Mr Chen - part of the Workers' Party team that made history here by winning a GRC in the recent General Elections in May - announced his decision on his Facebook page.

A Rhodes Scholar who studied at Harvard University and Oxford University, Mr Chen cited in his Facebook post his new responsibilities as an MP as the reason for his decision.

He wrote (as is carried here): 'After much thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from active practice as a partner of the Davis Polk law firm with effect from July. It is quite clear to me that given my new responsibilities as MP I will not be able to continue practicing law the way I have in the last twenty years. at least his effort to concentrate 100% on MP duties is commendable.

Good move by Mr Chen Show Mao.. After all those years in Davis Polk, I'm sure he has make more than enough to last him a lifetime.. This move by Mr Chen shows that he is more focussed than ever to concentrate on his MP duties and to serve his residents better..:)

Si beh song la, commendable la, Good move la

when TPL resigned she got fuxxed :D

His actions is call real gold not scared of fire. So long one has depth and real capabilities, he knows he can reenter the industry and still be sought after.

Godspeed CSM!

Aljunied voters are lucky to have this kind of MP

Other than his name in a report card (Aljunied), the rest are still blank.

It's interesting that people are jumping to the conclusion so soon...

Welcome home Chen Show Mao. Now, you are truly back home! Nobody can accuse you of not being a true Singaporean anymore. Singapore needs you! We will support you forever! 我们永远支持你!

Still cannot understand why MIW mati mati say must pay attrative salaries to entice talent - the brightest and the best. We ended up with talent such as TPL, FMH, "kee cheu" etc when the real talent in CSM came home, stood for elections, resigned from lucrative law practice, just to get 15K.

There is a limit to what is enough. Apparently, CSM has that limit. I don't see many MIW doing the same thing. For them, the more the merrier and many aren't even proven talent like CSM. CSM passed his test without any 'protection' that our scholars are entitled to. MIW is just a disgrace.

we need more leaders like csm. this is really leading by example

One out and another one in. Let's see what sweet words we get from the WP idols.
