Chen Show Mao for President

There are rumours circulating around that another matter which is causing considerable worry and anxiety to PM Lee Hsien Loong and his Cabinet colleagues is the forthcoming election of the President. The PAP leadership is said to be frantically looking for a suitable candidate who could win the election considering the current unpredictable mood of the electorate. It is very important at this juncture for a pro-PAP candidate to be elected as President if only because of the need to keep the country’s reserves from being inspected by an inquisitive President. Another reason is that with a pro-opposition or neutral President relationship between the President and the PAP Government may not be that congenial, especially in the case of a strong-willed President. The mood of the electorate is still not entirely in the Government’s favour and any less eminent candidate they put up will likely end up in woe. The person likely to win the presidency for them is none other than the former Foreign Minister George Yeo because of his still eminent standing among the electorate. Otherwise the mood of the electorate is that they want to see a non-PAP candidate elected as President for a change. They think it will be good for Singapore to have a President who really represents the people without the PAP baggage.

It will be interesting to watch who will emerge as the person with the audacity to offer himself as a candidate to compete against a formidable PAP nominee. Since this is a national election, this iconic personality will likely get the opposition support and the support of all those borderline cases who voted for the PAP in the last General Election.

As rightly highlighted by the above author, we definitely need a strong, independent and PAP neutral candidate to stand for the coming Presidential election.

Chen Show Mao is currently the person that comes to mind without PAP baggage and meet the stringent criterion to stand for the elected Presidency . Also with his vast legal background, international and multi-national experience would august well for the role of a custodian President.

I strongly believe that he is a credible and strong candidate if elected President would serve the nation with distinction, safeguard our reserve and secure our future.

Start lobbying .... Chen Show Mao for President!

hahaha.......if there is any contest........any candidate associated with papee will be dead duck.
papee (nominated candidate) will win only if there is a walk-over....
the writing was on the wall before GE2011....now it is crystal clear.

Candidates who wish to run in the presidential election cannot be members of ANY party whether PAP or WP.

They must ALL be independents.

So forget about GY, GCT, LKY, etc running for president. The PAP cannot nominate any of its members for president. Unless they give up their MP seat AND resign from the party. Do you think they will do that? For that matter, do you think Chen Show Mao would want to give up his MP seat AND resign from the WP.. so soon after getting elected?

He would break the record for being the MP with the shortest term ever. Just serve 2-3 months as MP. Do you think he would want that?

Quite true.

I also voted for Chua Kim Yeow in the first presidential election.

Ong ran for the presidency in 1993 under the PAP's endorsement. He ran against a reluctant Chua Kim Yeow, a former accountant general, for the post. A total of 1,756,517 votes were polled. Ong received 952,513 votes while Chua had 670,358 votes, despite the former having a higher public exposure and a much more active campaign than Chua.

The time is near when Singaporeans can have their truly first elected President. As Singaporeans they have the RIGHT to choose the person that they are comfortable with. A person who has their problems close to his / her heart.
Mr Lee Hsien Loong has stated that the views of Singaporeans would always be held in high esteem and hence that time had now come 4 words to become action.
The PAP, should refrain from putting any of their past Ministers, MPs or other top-guns for this high position. The nominees should be from the people and should represent the people.
The elected President should also use all the powers vested in him to bring to open and lay bare the true of whatever that may have been conveniently left out. The people has a right to know.
So whoever is coming to stand for this august office, please come forward with sincerity and true purpose to serve the people truthfully and the best of their ability.

Tan Cheng Bock would be a better choice as he is disgusted with the new PAP and was once ridiculed by LKY in parliament........... his heart has left PAP and it is still with the heartlanders. He is a man of principles

Chen Show Mao cannot run for the president even though he is qualified for it. He is still an MP. Even people like Goh Chok Tong, Lee Kuan Yew and Wong Can't Sing are disqualified as they are still MPs. George Yeo is still with the PAP and he can only run for the next term. However, Mr Chen can be prime minister provided Workers' Party forms the government. Tan Kin Lian will be ideal because he ws former NTUC income CEO and he is more pro-alternatives too.

If Tan Kin Lian also comes in, then it will become a 3-corner fight between him, Dr Tan, and the designated PAP candidate.

The die-hard opposition supporters will vote for TKL as they cannot accept anyone, even those with Dr TCB's calibre and independance, that is vaguely associated with PAP. Dr TCB will probably get most votes from those middle of the road voters. The size of the PAP vote bank will depend on the choice of the popular appeal of the PAP candidate.

The outcome of the elections will be highly unpredictable....
