SINGAPORE: Singapore Democratic Party member Chee Siok Chin has failed in her appeal to overturn a denied travel request.
She had previously applied to leave the country to attend a Stanford University programme, which was slated to run from July 28 to August 15.
As an undischarged bankrupt, Chee must ask for permission from the Official Assignee's Office before leaving the country.
Her request was shot down as the programme was deemed to be of no benefit to her creditors.
Her appeal on Monday was rejected by the High Court as she failed to submit the required documents on time.
In addition, the Attorney-General argued that because Chee had postponed her hearing to a date after the university programme had ended, her travel application was no longer valid.
Chee was also ordered by the court to pay S$1,000 in legal costs.
