BMW has good engines but that's all.
The quality is very poor in recent years, common complaints include:
- It is harder to find older BMW cars on the road because the start-stop function created durability issues. It appears that BMW's start-stop function is more suited for their Hybrid cars and petrol cars owners have shared on bimmerforums that they should bypass the function manually each time they drive to prolong the car's durability. Performance Motors refused to help car owners permanently bypass the function.
- Aircon is a big problem because BMW will consistently suck in outside air even if you opt for "internal circulation" mode. Most cars do that as a safety feature, but BMW does it so often that you will always smell car exhaust if you are stuck in slow-moving traffic.
- BMW uses a proprietary battery (not for engine) for their on-board system. This battery has a short life-span.
- The biggest complain is that BMW car vent are very mouldy and smelly, because of their "always-open" design. The car is always smelly if you don't use car perfumes. Only BMW owners who park in shelter carparks avoid the problem. You can go for servicing and clean the aircon, change filter, the problem reoccur within a month. Performance Motors even peddled liqui moly aircon spray (which don't work)in recent years to make customers pay for their problem.
- Until BMW changes their car cam version in late 2019/2020, their car cams are unsuitable for singapore's hot climate.
- It is suspected that Performance Motor installed inferior car seats in the cars (locally). Alll driver seats have surface abrasion issues after 2-3 years. You will not find that in many other European cars, including the cheapo Infiniti.
- If you bargain a bit for your BMW, Performance Motors will give you Korean car tyres for your new car. Imagine you buy a German car with Korean tyres.
Of course, Mercedes is worse. hahaha
