Changi Village @@

I don't eat nasi lemak. I'd rather have chendol when I feel for the coconut milk taste. I don't even really eat rice except occasionally. Bread is best for me as staple. :D However, I must say that Japanese rice is really something. The common rice in Singaopore I assume to be either Thai or Malaysian. No match for the Japanese rice. I understand it's not really Japanese rice here in Singapore, but Japansese-grade from California.

All stalls selling Nasi Lemak at Changi Village are over rated...At the price of $3.50, the taste is nothin great.. People tend to think that the Nasi Lemak there are very special when they see the long queues in front of the stalls... But frankly speaking Adam Rd and the Chong Pang nasi Lemak beat those Changi Village stalls hands down.. And the quality of the Ah Kuas there are getting worse year by year...Saw a Malay Ah Kua there few weeks back.. Grizzly hair, pockmarked face, wearing all red dress standing at the car park at 2am all alone in the drizzling rain.. For a moment I thought that ''she'' was a Pontianak...

Finally collective wisdom emerges. There are plenty of idiots who stepped in and declared Changi nasi lemak as best.

We go to Changi Village often for other activities. Since need food top up the only way is to rotate as food as not as good and avoid the bad and expensive ones. Due to its bad design resulting in poor ventilation, food smells stick to your clothes so we avoid the food centre if we can help it.

You can try the following.
At the main centre.
Teh halia (near the toilet)
Teochew style beef kwayteow.
Belacan stingray with smelly beans (as Thais call it)
Goreng pisang
Fried udon noodles (next to goreng pisang)
Fried fish heads (next to goreng pisang)
Charlie's corner (try their hamburgers)

By the main-road
Dim sum (okay pricing plus airy area)
Giant JB style pau (only if you have an occasional fetish)

What we avoid
Illegal parking as they have 2 wardens on permanent duty.
Botak Jones food plus all the Muslim food (various reasons including oily taste, so-so tastes, self service and queues, food already cold, chop head prices)
Hokkien fried noodles (so-so only)
Ipoh hor fun (sweet sauce with fried oily wanton which only young people love)

I Agree With You... !!! This drink stall that you mentioned has gotta to be one of the best Teh Tarik that I had ever tasted in Spore... Other places will charge you 90cent to $1 for a cup of teh tarik, but this Bearded Old Indian Muslim man only charged you 80 cent for his frosty delicous Teh Tarik...

Nasi lemak, even chicken rice, are nothing great. Dont know why you all talk like national dishes. Plain white Thai rice is best for me. Another worse rice is black soya sauce duck rice. WTF?! Plain white rice goes best with duck and braise gravy. The stupid black soy sauce rice is simply stupid.

When I was young my brother was a tegu (NEA officer in charge of illegal hawking). Because of his job he knows where are the best food to be found. Like beef noodles in Bugis street (before it was demolished), Hainanese pork porridge at Johor Road. Once he took me all the way to Punggol (near Upper Serangoon road) for braised duck teo chew style. It was very good and they cook with traditional black soya sauce rice. Nowadays the sauce from duck stalls taste sweet and terrible. Might as well eat with white rice.

I love the Adam Road nasi lemak. They use basmati rice and the sambal is wonderful.

You got to be kidding me. Me n my kakis ate there b4 any bru-shat royalty spoiled it all. They were good coz the sambal had sotong.. REAL sotong.. or cuttlefish.. 1cm by 1 cm sotong...
After they got famous within a few months.. the sotongs i c there ain't in the sambal... they grew legs and started to queue and eat their old kakis..

I don't eat rice often but Japanese rice is certainly better than Thai rice. The black soy sauce duck rice is crap, that I agree.
