1. Chairman Mao whacked his political foes and they ran off to hide in Taiwan. LKY whacked his political foes and sent them off to jail.

2. Hit by an inspiration, Chairman Mao decided on cultural revolution to make the country more prosperous, akin to self sufficiency. When hit by an inspiration, LKY decided on mass immigration of foreigners to make SG more prosperous.

4. Chairman Mao's cultural revolution split the country. LKY's policy of mass immigration of foreigners also split SG apart. Sinkies are called disgraceful and xenophobic for not supporting this policy.

5. Chairman Mao believed power came from the barrel of a gun. LKY believed the hatchet in his bag is good enough.

It is not proper to compare the two. China and Singapore are world's apart, the size and complexity of governing the two countries are vastly different. China is a huge big land with different peoples, cultures, geographies, religions, landscapes. Singapore is a little Peesai made up mostly of immigrants who came to better their lives. Mao led her peoples through a civil war, revolution, foreign invasion. LKY took over a well developed country with laws and civil service set up by the Brits. His job was a piece of cake.

I agree with you here, Singapore did have periods of unrests, but they were very mild and tame compared to cases elsewhere in the world, and they were not exactly Singapore's problems until after independence onwards. Compare these "events" with cases like the Uighurs in China, tribal disputes in Africa, border incidents between Pakistan/India, Middle-Easter struggles, or even Central American drug wars, unrests in Singapore are more like kid brawls at school yards. Even the recent "riots" in Little India lasted only a few hours, and no one was targeted or hurt. Governing Singapore is child's play. PAP's achievements have been overplayed.
