2 men, aged 22 & 29, who allegedly had sex with male ICA officer, 55, charged with corruption
They were applying for short-term visit passes.
Two men were charged on Sep. 18 for allegedly giving bribes in the form of sexual acts to an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer.
Arya Monu, 29, and Bharat, 22, both Indian nationals, were charged with offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Both men allegedly gave the bribes to induce Kannan Morice Rajagopal Jayaram, 55, an ICA officer, to help with their short-term visit pass applications.
Monu allegedly did so on Dec. 24, 2022, while Bharat, who goes by one name, allegedly did so on Feb. 18, 2023.
Officer sentenced
Previously on Sep. 11, 2024, Kannan was sentenced to 22 months’ imprisonment for receiving sexual favours from six foreigners to help with their short-term visit pass applications with ICA.
Another three similar charges involving three other men were taken into consideration during sentencing.
He was first charged in court on Dec. 14, 2023.
"Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said in a press release.
Any person convicted of a corruption offence can be fined up to S$100,000 or sentenced to jail not exceeding five years, or to both.
