Father-in-law 'rapes newlywed bride while her sister-in-law films it after drink was spiked'
The victim is thought to have been harassed when her in-laws became disappointed with the size of her dowry
A newlywed bride alleges she was raped by her new father-in-law while her sister-in-law filmed it after she was "poisoned".
The victim claims that her elder sister-in-law gave her a drink of milk which had been spiked and caused her to fall unconscious.
Then her father-in-law raped her while the whole ordeal was filmed.
When the woman tried to file a complaint with the police, it is alleged that both the accused threatened to make the video go viral.
Despite that threat the bride filed a complaint with the local police station in Ambala, India on September 12.
The accused are said to be the residents of Patiala, in the north west of the country.
A police officer is quoted in the Times of India saying: "We have registered a case against the father-in-law and sister-in-law under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 376 (punishment for rape), 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
"She accused her father-in-law of raping her and her elder sister-in-law of making video of the entire act.
"We have initiated the investigation into this case, but so far no arrests have been made."
According to Indian media when the woman got married in February 2018 her new parents-in-law were not happy with the dowry given to them.
Over time the relationship broke down between the families.
Her husband would reportedly exploit the victim physically and she confided in her sister-in-law who, days later, spiked her drink leading to the alleged sex attack.
No arrests have been made yet.
