Anyone from British Commonwealth have the right to live in the UK. Until WWII. That was the angst when Britain issued British overseas passport to hongkies who wanted it during anti china riots crackdown.
That was how many indians ended up in British colonial territories like Canada, Jamaica, Uganda, Tanzania, south Africa, Malaya, Singapore.... And the UK. Same as malay marine crew who works for British shipping knows lines and ended up in London and Liverpool.
