A MYANMAR national would order thousands of litres of cough syrup from an agent here, repack it in 90ml or 60ml bottles and sell it in Geylang for $15 or $10 for each bottle If Tin Ko Oo, 40, had sold all 5,080 litres that he had with him, the profit would be more than $82,000, Deputy Public Prosecutor Gail Wong told a district court on Tuesday.
Tin was operating illicitly and on Tuesday he pleaded guilty to having six types of medicinal ingredients classified under the Poisons Act without a licence. These poisons were found in the cough mixture and in the 2,000 pills found in a storage area in Boon Keng Road and another in Kallang Way in January this year.
Tin, who is a chemistry graduate, will be sentenced on Dec 23. He could be fined up to $10,000 and/or jailed up to two years on each of the six charges.
The court heard that the foreigner, who is here on a Special Pass, had been selling the cough mixture since 2008 and earning about $5,000 a month. His company, Golden Champion International is located in Peninsula Plaza in North Bridge Road but the cough mixture would be sold by Denis Ko Weiqiang at Lorong 9 Geylang. Investigations revealed that Tin would pay Ko $60 a day.
Asking for a stiff sentence, DPP Wong pointed out that Tin should be dealt with more severely than his runner Ko, who was jailed four months in March.
