A FOREIGN couple on holiday here were charged in court yesterday with stealing a $15,000 diamond bracelet.

Gomez Bermundez Rafael Alexander, 33, a Colombian national, and Linda Tatiana Lopez, 21, an American citizen, are accused of stealing a 6.32- carat 18K diamond bracelet.

The theft allegedly took place at the SK Jewellery store at Bugis Junction Towers in Victoria Street last Saturday.

The prosecution successfully applied for them to be remanded for a week as they are believed to be involved in other cases.

A police statement said a staff member of the jewellery shop reported the bracelet stolen at about 10.55pm that day.

Police viewed the store’s CCTV footage and established that a Caucasian couple were potential suspects.

After extensive inquiries, police arrested the couple at a hotel in Geylang Road on Monday. The bracelet was recovered.

The maximum penalty for theft is seven years’ jail and a fine.
