A guy saw our post on ALL facebook and called to say they belonged to a friend whose parents would not allow her to keep them. They were only a few months old then. Rather than sending them to SPCA, she decided to leave them in the care of the boys at the camp as she has some friends there.

As “Butter” and “Clover” grew to adulthood, one of the personnel at the camp took them to the Vet to have them sterilised as they are both females.

Next we have “Ballsac” that might as well be a permanent fixture at the camp as he had been there for as long as the boys can remember.

Interestingly, Cathy notes that these dogs have been living at the camp for close to 6 years without any complaints of dog bites until last December.

A TRE reader, who introduced himself as a dog-trainer, says that dogs are relatively disciplined and tame animals and they normally do not attack, unless they are being provoked or threatened.

As such, he opines that the female staff at the camp may have been bitten because the dog was provoked.

In any case, going by online comments, it appears that MINDEF’s handling of the alleged dog abuse case leaves room for debate.

What do you think?

SINGAPORE — The father of a full-time National Serviceman (NSF), who was punished for filming an unauthorised video of an abandoned dog tied up in Pasir Ris camp, has lashed out at the Ministry of Defence’s (MINDEF) handling of the case, accusing it of not honouring its word to a member of an animal welfare group.

Mr Simon Spencer also wrote in a Facebook post yesterday that his son and eight other NSFs were threatened into keeping mum about the alleged abuse of a stray dog by a senior officer.

Responding on its Facebook page, the Army dismissed the allegations against these commanders as “untrue and unfounded” and reiterated that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) does not condone any acts of cruelty to animals. In an earlier post at midnight on Tuesday, it said the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore agreed with its investigation findings that no dog abuse had been committed.

The Army also posted a picture of a woman’s leg showing teeth marks, saying it was of a staff who had been bitten twice by “aggressive” stray dogs that are a “persistent danger to personnel”. In December last year, there were at least five recorded incidents of attacks by these dogs, with four causing injuries to its personnel, it added.

In his post, Mr Spencer said Animal Lovers League President Cathy Strong was asked by MINDEF to disclose who handed her the 21-second video of the black dog with a taut white rope tied around its neck that prevented it from moving or lying down.

She was assured that it was purely for investigation into the animal abuse and that no charges would be pressed against personnel involved in filming it, he claimed.

“It was clear that MINDEF did not keep to their word to Cathy when two officers informed me that my son will be charged,” said Mr Spencer.

The Army did not address Mr Spencer’s claims about the ministry’s assurance to Ms Strong. It reiterated that unauthorised videography within camps and disclosure of information to persons outside the SAF violated camp security regulations and were “serious offences”. Amir Hussain

The dogs Mindef claimed to have bitten their workers since December of last year are not strays. Two of them were left behind by their owner who moved out of the neighbouring farms. One of them was the black dog in the video. AVA had that dog's microchip number registered to the guy who occupied the fish farm opposite the camp. AVA also registered that dog as a sterilised dog. The army boys named her "Girl Girl". She has a son that they named "Xiao Hei".

Next we have "Butter" and "Clover" and "Browny".

Why was Simon's son punished? This is one question I have asked myself over and over again. After all, I was assured that no charges will be pressed upon him apart from, possibly, a stern warning.

A day or two after the posting of the video, a spokesperson from Mindef called me and said Mindef was investigating the case of dog abuse at the camp. She asked if she could contact the NSF guy for more details. I told her that I could not reveal is name without his prior consent. She then assured me that he would not be charged but possibly be given a stern warning.

I believed and trusted her word as she willingly gave me her boss's direct line if I needed affirmation. I convinced Simon's son to work with Mindef to put an end to this abuse. I told him that I was confident that here in Singapore, no one is above the law.

Simon's son relented after my assurance, much to my utmost regret now.

I remember a pack of 10+ dogs always hang around gedong camp main gate at night. Sometime they will follow us prowl the camp in turns at nite. Always feel more assure with them around as some parts of gedong prowling route feel weird.

I remember trying to feed some of the dogs with cookhouse food(those days still have army cooks) once, the dogs took a sniff and walk off, proving army cookhouse food really inedible.

Yeah. Good old memories. Knn, my camp dogs more seng mok, will not follow us on prowling duties. These strays keep the peng kia company in the night. the only thing scary is when they howl out of sudden, machiam see something we cannot see.

The LTC is trying to siam the whole issue.
The issue is: was he or was he not the guy who was in the video who whacked the dog?

the issue now is what will happen to all the other strays in and around camps.
my guess is they will disappear and it's all thanks to cathy and those bleeding hearts.
they save a few but many more will die because of their actions.:mad::mad:
