Cat killer remanded

AN ODD-JOB worker was charged on Thursday with killing a cat at the void deck of a block of flats in Bukit Batok on New Year's Day. No plea was taken from Zamzam Ismail, 41. He is said to have committed mischief by swinging the cat twice against the wall at the void deck of Block 269 Bukit Batok East Avenue 4 at about 8.20am last Friday. He was remanded for psychiatric assessment. His next court appearance is on Jan 21. If convicted he faces a jail term of up to five years and/or a fine.

A MAN who killed a cat by swinging it twice against the wall was jailed for 10 weeks on Wednesday. ZamZam Ismail, 41, an odd-job labourer, admitted to committing mischief at the void deck of Block 269 Bukit Batok East Avenue 4 on Jan 1. A woman was walking past the void deck when she saw ZamZam swing the cat against the wall twice and throw the animal away. She called the police. ZamZam who has previous convictions for criminal intimidation and theft could have been jailed for up to five years and/or fined for the offence.

AN ANIMAL abuser who swung a cat against a wall and killed it was sentenced to 10 weeks' jail yesterday. Odd-job labourer ZamZam Ismail, 41, admitted to the act of mischief at the void deck of a block in Bukit Batok.The Community Court heard yesterday that a witness near Block 269, Bukit Batok East Avenue 4, on Jan 1, saw ZamZam holding the cat by its front legs, swinging it twice against the wall and then hurling it away. She called the police. A post-mortem revealed blunt force trauma as the cause of the cat's death. Community Court judge Ng Peng Hong noted that an Institute of Mental Health report showed ZamZam was dependent on alcohol and had abused sleeping pills. He also has convictions for criminal intimidation and theft.
