For "casino lovers" the skies continue to darken as the PAP works the ground to change the current entry system. However given that elections are expected in Dec 2010, the changes are likely to be effected after the elections. This is to avoid enraging "casino lover" voters.
Inter—ministry committee to look into IRs’ legislation
SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S Iswaran said the government has set up an inter—ministry committee that may look into issues of legislation regarding the integrated resorts (IRs).
"We have established a committee; it has representation from all the ministries that have an interest in the policy matters that are affecting the IRs," Mr Iswaran said at the launch of the Jewel Cable Cars on Friday evening.
"It’s a natural extension, really, if you think about it, because IRs are now getting into more steady—state operational phase and likely to have recurrent issues and some of them will have multiple dimensions and we’ll need to coordinate the approach from the government."
Meanwhile, Mr Iswaran also said at the launch that the new cable cars were part of a broader strategy to reinvent Sentosa over the past decade.
He said the cable cars have been an iconic attraction and a popular mode of transport into Sentosa Island since 1974, with more than 25 million people travelling on them.
And with the expanded passenger capacity, they will help to further improve accessibility to new leisure and entertainment offerings on the island, such as Resorts World Sentosa.
