SINGAPORE - A car crashed into a railing near The Roti Prata House along Upper Thomson Road at about 6.15pm on Sunday (Jan 3).
Four people - the driver and passenger in the car, both women, and two other men -were injured and sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. One of the men was in his 30s, while the others were in their 20s.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the driver suffered abrasions on her right thumb, while the passenger had said she felt pain in her left shoulder. The men had cuts on their foreheads, believed to be due to flying debris that hit them. They have since been discharged.
Mr Syed Ridzwan, 39, was working at The Roti Prata House when the accident happened. He told The Straits Times that the two men with cuts were diners at his restaurant, and for one of them, "the injury was quite bad".
There were about 80 customers then, and after hearing a loud bang, some customers rushed out to see what happened, he said.
The driver is believed to have been making an illegal U-turn when she hit Mr Ridzwan's friend's car and lost control. She was trying to avoid a bus nearby when she hit the railing, he added.

As at 9.30am on Monday, investigations are still ongoing, said police.

I am very familiar with that section of road. Am wondering how on Mother Earth the 20-year old lady can make a U-turn there!

The small lane in front of Prata shop is usually left with 1-car width after cars are parked along shop. Even parallel parking is difficult for inexperienced drivers. This road is one-way traffic only.

Parallel to this small lane is Upper Thomson Road which is a 4-lane road in each direction. U-Turn is at middle divider.

How on Earth driver going make illegal U-Turn and hit the bus stop which is usually packed with people?

How many 20 year olds do you know who are experienced drivers:confused:

In places like Canada this age group is considered a high risk group & they are charged higher motor insurance premiums.

In their 20s could mean 21 or 29. It doesn't mean 20 years old. :D

Long weekend plus hospitalization just nice huh.

If the media is vague with the facts I assume the worst, that they are trying to hide the facts e.g. Very young driver, might be a foreigner, ....

I know that stretch very well, often frequent there to go Wah Nam Restaurant to eat & buy, you know what from that 7-11 to strike 1 million. There is small opening that is before the now demolished Thomson Rd Post Office, the clown of a woman, made an illegal u-turn there, gone too fast, ramped up the sidewalk near the bust stop, hit the railings, causing some debris to fly to the Al Fresco sitting outside the Prata Shop & hit some diners. This happened at night, fortunately the traffic at the small congested road running parallel to the shop houses was light. If this was day time, the bus stop is usually crowded plus people walking to & from the bus stop, and the tyre shop next door is open, plus morning traffic...it could have been worse.

Woman driver....hmmm!..amazing!

The driver tried to make a U-turn at the junction of Jalan Keli? That's a narrow junction even experienced driver has to make 3-point turn to get back into Upper Thomson Road. Usually Drivers go further into Jalan Keli and do 3-point turn near the church.

And is quite a distance, (like 20-30 meters to bus stop?) from that junction to bus stop. The 20s-year old driver must had accidentally stepped on accelerator hard and shot up the pavement like a tank to crash into the railings, and sending debris across that small road to injure the diners!

One can be very careful while driving in road. But one can never guard against such Drivers. Just like that unfortunate motorcyclist on PIE on Christmas.

There is or was or still there a small break on the traffic island, between UOB & the end of the shophouses where, the Apple Strudel shop used to be, the area there is boarded up for the construction of the MRT Station. I guess the U-turn there is illegal now. The driver from the photo, like you said must must step on the accelerator after making the turn, shot across to the railings at the bus stop, hit the railings hard, & nearly crashed through to the small road, the impact hit the metal parts of the railing plus other 'shrapnels', which flew at the diners at the Al Fresco sitting outside the prata shop. Next time, sitting at Al Fresco must wear helmets.... ha ha ha ha & woman driver, must carry, WARNING SIGNS... ha ha ha ha ha

hahaha....many speculations but none seem to have orientation correct yet...
traffic coming from sembawang can turn right into Thomson Ridge....the curvature of the opening is as such for right turning vehicles......
the clown was driving towards sembawang and tried to make an illegal u-turn at this opening.....
she lost control (following the curvature) and went against traffic for about 20m avoiding a bus before hitting the railings...
there could have been a bigger disaster..

The church of the holy spirit. WTF they boarded up the entire place. Thank god the church is still around. The useless post office can go. I read about how the building works ruin the church floors once.

The pheromones from the Indian manning the roti shop can be quite scintillating all that sweat and heat. causing the lady to instinctively make a u turn. Once you got black, you won't look back.

Damn....this could have ended up as a tragedy...thank god the prata shop is undamaged, so i can get my kosongs wihout disruption.
