Most bosses in S'pore are extremely insecure. For example, when a subordinate has a more expensive car, it undermines the boss’ sense of authority and competence, making him feel insecure. Such superiors feel threatened when a subordinate appears more successful. There is an unwritten rule that a subordinate’s status symbol should not exceed their boss' as it disrupts the traditional perception of authority. This is especially true with Asian bosses.
