Parking problems: Cathay replies
I REFER to yesterday's letter, 'Design flaws in Cathay Cineplex carpark', and would like to thank Mr William Choy for his comments. We are indeed sorry to hear of the inconvenience caused to Mr Choy during his recent visit to The Cathay.
We would like to clarify that there are two signs at the carpark on Handy Road indicating there is no grace period. One is at the entrance and the other is further down, at the entry barrier.
When The Cathay first opened, many vehicles tried to avoid the ERP gantry nearby and used our parking facilities as a means to do so because the exit from our carpark is just after the gantry. Thus we had to impose a no grace period requirement for our parking facility to prevent vehicles from using our carpark, which is private property, as a through road.
We have also checked the electronic parking system and it was not faulty on Nov 28 at 7.30pm. Thus, vehicles were allowed to enter when there were parking lots available. As this is an electronic system, the barrier will not lift to allow cars into the carpark if it is full. It will allow vehicles in only after other cars have left, so there is carpark space for the next vehicle coming in.
We are sorry if the signs may not be clear in the carpark. Motorists who drive down to the level 2 carpark, which is where the exit is located, have the option of turning left, by following the arrow, to go back up to the upper levels of the carpark instead of going straight to the exit. Similarly, on levels 2M, 3 and 4 of the parking facility, with the exception of level 1.
We hope this clarifies our parking facilities. We would like to thank Mr Choy for taking the time to write in and we appreciate his gracious understanding.
