hi, good morning everyone!

i recently try partitioning my windows lapdog with a cheap trick software. as unfortunate as it turns out, my windows crashed, not even the early windows restore image can be found. however, i have my data on the 2nd partition which was left untouched. so i went on to reinstall my windows 7, genuine just in case you think otherwise.

after all the updates, i tried to change the location of my documents to that of my data partition sitting on D: drive. but my access was denied. i have searched all over the internet trying set up permission but still unable to access. there is no certificate for access as well.

how and what i should do?:(

The OS will not find the rest of the data in the other folder, I had this experience before, even getting the computer shop guy ti mirror & copy...the only way, was to reformat the HDD. The HDD was partitioned by default, the OS on one, the data on the other, WINDOZED after numerous updates became bloated, C: ran out of space, even with compression...the system crashed. Some programs they donot install in D:, that contributed to the problem too & I could not expand c:

The solution, back up all from d: & reformat the HDD & this was my old Notebook...I have partitioned WINDOZED before in the past, very far past, one for Linux & the other for WINDOZED, & installed a good partition manager to boot..& yet the WINDOZED will find ways to CRASH. That is why I am not happy to see partition on any WINDOZED OS machine.

It is REFORMAT..

See if you can mount with a linux boot disk.

please don't make me busy, i am a busy man, you know...you know...:p:o

my documents will be lost if i reformat, please, i need more useful help not reformat, something to recover my documents.:(

Windows 7 is shit.
Either downgrade to XP Pro or upgrade to Windows 8.

BTW, did you backup your registry before installing that sw? You should know that restore point will fail you some times and when that happens, only the registry backup can save you.

Remember this,

.re
g is not .hive, so the import and export function of regedit is useless.

Why do you need to re-format? Since there is no Windows to access the data drive at D, use a LiveCD, BartPE or ubuntu distro whatever, access the D drive and copy out the data.

But first, you need to understand how your Windows crashed? Is it due to lack of hard disk or is it due to the sw you played with?

Haizz....if you're not techie, dun play with fire.

Try something like this for the UAC, best wishes:

Why do people still bother to partition their hard disks?

If you want to multi-boot different OSes, get more hard disks and install one OS per hard disk.

If you want additional storage, get an additional hard disk. Or upload your stuff to cloud storage (Google Drive, Microsoft Skydrive, Dropbox)

You can easily get an external hard disk for laptops which you can carry around with you.

friend, keeping data on separate partition is very critical. if your OS crash, your data also kaput..

i have a desktop where i mirror the harddisks, if one go kaput, i have another working one, you won't be able to find one in the market. i can't understand why those PC makers did away with this technology. the one readily available in the market is wifi disk mirror backup which i think it is still lacking security.

Their restore point is like, getting a Martian to restore your system if you can find one..

Bring to a reliable computer technician, to back up your data, I believe it is on drive d:? no?, to a portable HDD...& ask, what is the best solution?..if C:\ is already maxed & can not be expanded or..reformat is the way...go seek help.

Buy A MAC..

If you are worried about your data, shouldn't one be using RAID or an external HDD?
I got a WD USB 3.0 ext HDDs to do backups. This may not be a power users choice, but I think it is the easiest solution.

Using a single HDD with multiple partitions isn't a good idea as you have found out.

Agree with the earlier comments about external HDD and cloud storage. In case you do not know about cloud storage, they can optionally upload the document in your hard drive to the cloud storage automatically, which means, you save your files in local hard drive C:\My Documents for example, any file you put in this folder gets uploaded automatically to cloud storage. This is an optional feature, if you want this feature, you need to install their custom software.. if not, you just manually copy the file to cloud storage.
