SINGAPORE:

Four former Fullerton Hotel employees were charged on Tuesday in court with accepting bribes totalling

more than S$20,000 from a taxi driver.

Two of them later pleaded guilty and one of them was fined S$18,000 for accepting a S$1,000 bribe.

Forty-six-year-old bell captain Azahar Ariffin and 47-year-old bellman Goh Yeow Kwang admitted to

accepting the money from Yip Kiam Bin in exchange for assigning guests' taxi bookings to the cabby.

They did this instead of using the hotline when guests asked for taxi limousine services.

Azahar, who had held his post since 2000, was fined S$10,000 for accepting S$3,800 in bribes between 2006 and 2008.

He also had to pay a penalty, equivalent to the amount he had accepted in bribes.

Should he fail to fork out the money, he would have to spend 14 weeks behind bars.

Goh took S$1,000 in bribes from May 2007 until mid-2008.

He was fined on Tuesday S$18,000 and ordered to pay a penalty of S$1,000 as he had already been convicted of a similar offence in 2003.

Then, Goh had to pay a fine and a penalty totalling nearly S$13,000 after being convicted of five graft charges.

The two other men charged were the hotel's then-head concierge, 49-year-old Muhammad Salman Abdullah Tan (alias Gregory Tan), and another bell captain, 45-year-old Narayanasamy P Annamalai.

Tan faces three charges involving S$2,200.

Narayanasamy, who is accused of 11 graft charges, is believed to have accepted more than S$13,000 in bribes.

Their pre-trial conferences will be held in November.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kok Shu-En told the court that Yip, the cabby, was fined S$28,000, last year.

Many people are doing this. If not how those fancy TAXI Chrysler will get passenger?
Fare is about 50% higher than Hyundai Sonata.

To earn $4000 a month you will have to drive 16 hours a day and drink Red Bull to stay accident free. :D

hi there

1. can krafty confirm on the earning portion?
2. or are you still with mummy or what?

heard that he goes for S$40/- , flat rate , per trip.

10 trips = 10 x 40 = S$400 per day at least.

x 20 days = s$8,000/-

Yes the math works out , and 10 trips per day with that kind of leg up is not impossible.

The tourists wont know any better and $40 would sound cheap to many of them who come from places where the taxi fares are much higher.

Very funny. You did not deduct out the taxi rental and petrol. Is not easy to hit $8k.
Rental and fuel will be at least $250/day for Chrysler cab.

My cabby friends tell me if can make 4k a month, they very happy liao. To accomplish that, 12 hrs on the road needed. No MC, no accident, no off day.

$8 a month is a lot for a cab driver, ask Krafty.... Think he got a flat $40 for every trip

Why bother about such corruption.
Get those that affect the country, fellow citizens and our future.

I suspect it depends who is doing it that determines whether a crime been committed. If the kick back is done by the management, it beomes SOP of business & the management will pocket the "bonuses" :)

If it is done by an ambitious "lesser mortal", it's a crime:rolleyes:

Most people who count earnings this way are bankrupts. Counting only revenue and not costs... lol

The regime punished peasants who provided efficient service to stupid anglo saxons.

However the regime balked from investigating the cartel behaviour of the cab companies because their chums and pals are earning big bucks fleecing off stupid local peasants and foreign anglo saxons and Asiatics.
