<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A TAXI driver followed his fare to her hostel and tried to rob her of her valuables, a district court heard. Sazali Sujak panicked when the victim kept shouting for help and aborted the attempt at King Edward Hall at Kent Ridge Road. The 32-year-old was sentenced to three years' jail and six strokes of the cane on Thursday for trying to rob Ms Dan Bee Shin, 20, a Korean studying at the National University of Singapore, in her room at about 3am on July 7. He had followed the victim to the hostel after picking her from VivoCity. As she was about to close the door, he pushed it and the force caused her to fall. He covered her mouth and she tried to break free. When she shouted for help, he panicked and left immediately. He could have been jailed between two and seven years plus at least six strokes of the cane.
