By Elena ChongA taxi driver was jailed for two weeks on Thursday for lying that he was robbed by two passengers.
Tan Kay Beng, 38, admitted giving a false written statement to the police that two Indian males had forcibly taken his pouch containing about $1,000 and fled from Telok Blangah Green on May 30.
The court heard that he confessed two weeks later when he was interviewed by a senior staff sergeant, who felt that his story was inconsistent.
Tan admitted that he gave false information as he was facing financial difficulties and wanted to delay paying for his taxi hiring fee.
