A TAXI driver was charged in court on Friday with molesting a woman executive. Francis Ngien Tai Ho, 52, is accused of grabbing the 25-year-old's hand and kissing it in the Simei area on Aug 10. The alleged victim was a fare of Ngien at the time. His case was adjourned to next Friday for him to engage a lawyer. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine.

SINGAPORE - Eight years ago, the taxi driver was fined $8,000 for molesting two female passengers on separate occasions.

Francis Ngien Tai Ho used the same ruse each time: He would tell the passenger that the seat belts at the rear seats were damaged, asked her to sit in front and then molested her when she was about the pay the fare for the taxi ride.

He kissed the hand of one woman in the first incident, and hugged and kissed his second victim.

The 52-year-old's taxi licence was revoked after his conviction.

Last year, he re-applied to be a taxi driver and joined TransCab on July 17. A month later, he molested again.

At 2.45am on Aug 10 last year, Ngien picked up a woman who had just finished work.

During the ride, the 25-year-old woman complained that the rear passenger seats were uncomfortable. Ngien then invited her to sit in front.

The woman agreed and during the journey, Ngien chatted with her and tried asking for her contact number.

Ngien also said he wanted to ask her out on a date and volunteered to pick her up from her workplace whenever she worked late.

Feeling uncomfortable, the woman lied that she had a boyfriend who would pick her up.

The taxi driver also volunteered to reduce her taxi fare from $22.80 to $20 when they reached her destination. He then kissed her hand and she lodged a police report the next day.

Ngien, who pleaded guilty in a district court on Friday, will be sentenced on July 23.
