Cabbies Worried About Cash-Flow

Letter from Danny G Tan

04:47 AM Jun 29, 2011I

READ with interest that a local taxi company is making it easier for passengers to pay with credit cards (June 28).

The problem is that many cabbies I have encountered do not like passengers to pay with anything but cash.

When queried, one driver told me that while he had to pay for fuel and other charges on a daily basis, the fares collected through Network For Electronic Transfers (NETS) and credit cards are only given to him periodically, leading to a daily cash shortfall if he accepted too many non-cash fares.

It's a stupid comment. Nobody gets his salary on daily basis. Learn to maintain and manage a daily float to cover expenses.

Anyone tried taking a cab or calling for one between 9-11pm at night? Good luck trying coz it's next to impossible to get one. The freaking cab will refuse to stop claiming they are on call even when they have the available lights up. If you try calling for a cab. good luck trying to reach an operator within 15-20mins of calling. The problem was resolved after they increased the fare, seems like they are back to their old habits again

"Have you tried calling a taxi at orchard rd from evening onwards? No it's not the taxi company service problem but you can't get about even if you drive a car. What i am trying to tell you is TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND IT WILL BE FASTER."

If i am a mean fucker, i will say u are a loser cab driver who wasted his university education and in reality is a dua kang yao siu chao cheebye who like to waste time chatting on sammyboy instead of driving.

Hehe....but of course i wouldn't la. :p

i disagree, odd job labourers get their salary on a daily basis. what i can say about this cashless payment is that taxi company sometimes screwed up payment to their bank accounts. i was ever shortchanged by SMRT, then have to sent in duplicate receipts and speak to this and that person and so on, very troublesome.

oh,i never forget how the instructor try to make things difficult for me when i enrol for taxi course, a fucking indian. something funny during that time, they hang a potrait of lee kaun yew outside the classroom. i have to lan lan stand in front of the portrait and admire his lan jiao face just to appease the instructor as he is observing me.

Electricity, gasoline, bus fares, etc were increased when gas prices were set at record levels. Although gas prices corrected downwards , our super efficient gov't never reacted by bringing the prices down & even increased the prices:eek:

However now that gas prices are in the 90's, isn't time they reduced prices:confused:

My goodness this problem stills around...during my time, it was common to see taxi with on call sign cruising pass you along Robison Rd, during the magic hour of 1145pm to midnight, you will notice the same cab numbers. You call, there is no available taxi...at 12, the taxis appears like magic. Didn't know, this is till happening today. Must get No porn Lui to take taxi in the city..between 1145pm to midnight..
