It is all a phase, a cycle. Indians, Chinese are splurging in luxury goods because they can now and want to show that they have "made it". Ever seen the rich white folks do the same? Warren buffet, steve jobs, bill gates every splurge like these in gold? What do they usually wear when they go out? There was a good article on what the rich wear in America a while back. The blacks when they are rich would deck out their outfit in gold, while the white just continues as normal.
