to be fair, sg leaders and diplomats in the shadows and background continued to engage the myanmar junta to keep their ties with asean aspirations and market opportunties in order to maintain an active line of communication. this was better than cutting them off totally, and the junta would have descended into a north korean-type impasse. sg also acted as a diplomatic conduit and facilitator between the u.s. and myanmar. it's thru' much diplomacy, economic engagement, aid, and support that the patience finally pays off. obviously, the u.s. played a role in the whole shbang by pressuring the regime, but sg was walking the fine line by not pissing off the hardliners and shutting them off totally while at the same time showing the bozos in yangon there was a way out with a brighter future by opening up more and remaining flexible with dialogue and action.

no choice, sinkieland needs these tactic to survive, just 700km square of land, nothing else

Or more like a case of 'birds of a feather flock together'. Dictatorships easily find each other kindred spirits.

It is asinine to believe that Singapore is responsible for making Myanmar open up and become more democratic. It's like saying a prostitute is teaching sexual chastity.

Singapore is the Political Hub of the world - well known for its strict political diplomacy. This political mantra is the brain child of our great leader Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the policy of political diplomacy has been passed down to our younger leaders. Well done. Majulah Singapura!!!

And PM Lee said it very well here..

The loss of popular support for ruling parties that have governed for decades in Singapore and Malaysia must be met by new leaders who can fulfil younger voters' aspirations, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said this week.

In his first public comments comparing Singapore's General Election of May 2011 and Malaysia's polls in May this year, Mr Lee said: "You are talking about a generational change, you are talking about new social norms, new technology, new experiences of a generation which is growing up, which sees a different world and would like to have aspirations of their own and not just the aspirations of the older generation.

"It is necessary for every country to be able to produce the leadership which will work for that generation. And you cannot have a country where the population is 40 years old, but the leaders are very, very old as a team because there would be a gap."

The best part of it, is that the same prostitute will tell you, she is a VIRGIN & she is on a crossover project, to win souls!...

singapore adopts the best political platform on the global stage
this great philosophy of political diplomacy is our key to our survival
as a small and vulnerable country
we cannot afford to offend anyone
and if we do, we do not hesitate to offer our humble apologies
we are a humble country
there is no need to take a bold stand in anything on this giant stage
when you are big, you can talk big big
when you are small, better keep your mouth small small
you cannot afford to antagonise anyone anywhere anyhow
majulah singapura!!!
