The First World War proved to be a turning point for the 20th century. The devastating war led to sweeping political, social and economic changes. The effects of war had a lasting effect on those who came of age during those years. Many in that generation lost a sense of hope, purpose and direction. They were known as the “Lost Generation”.

Two decades into the new century, COVID-19 looks set to define the 21st century.
This crisis will likely change globalisation as we know it, further fray social compact in many societies, accelerate the pace of technological change, and even redefine social behaviour and travel patterns.

But we are determined that there should be no lost generation in Singapore. We are doing our utmost to keep viable companies afloat and to preserve jobs. In a weak job market, we are creating traineeships and other learning opportunities for our students who are graduating from ITEs, polytechnics and universities.

We do not know what the 21st century will shape up to be post-COVID. But we are sailing into uncharted waters — surveying the new landscape, exploring new growth and opportunities, preparing to seize them when the storm passes.

This is why I set up the Emerging Stronger Taskforce. We have two able co-chairs — Desmond Lee and Tan Chong Meng — leading this expedition. The Taskforce held its first meeting today. I thank Desmond and Chong Meng for leading this effort, and members of the Taskforce for their commitment to this. They will be inviting our people to share their views and co-creating ideas together. You can read more about their first meeting here: https://go.gov.sg/est

The Taskforce will present its recommendations to the Future Economy Council, which I chair, in phases. It is still early days. With conviction, determination and good planning, we seek to emerge stronger from this crisis and create a better future for our people. In the process, we also hope to work with people globally to build a better world.

Is the Little Policeman expecting WW3? Why reference WW1? What relevance is there? Also, it goes to show they are overpaid and doing fuck-all. Creating boh liao "taskforce" so they have something to do.

The best defense and solution, is to engage everyone and every opposition and every independent beings not associated to PAP. Only then, will Singapore emerge stronger, united and not deluded by a one-party PAP state. We have had enough of PAP shit and crap. The new era has to be a different environment, SINGAPORE INC no longer works and has to return to its root called THE SINGAPORE for the people. Focus on our local citizens above all other nations is the main priority for Singapore to survive. Without strong Singaporeans, there will be no Singapore whatever names of task force you created.

Continue to sideline our citizens in favour of foreigners, will kill Singapore faster than the pandemic virus.

What credentials does Desmond Lee have to qualify him as capable of leading such important committee ? Does he even know where to start ?

No no things already decided he just their to read the scripts written for him.

Chong Meng aka Clever will be more than an MP if fielded. He’s included here to guide Desmond along.

In the event of another fiasco like Covid-19, a tua Pek Kong is ready to exonerate Lee Yock Suan’s boy boy?

SG needs a real taskforce to look after the welfare of foreigners. It should be co -chaired by Liew Mun Leong. He is tough on foreigners.

Liew Mun Leong Small

You just watch. Eventually it would a pro foreigner wayang.

Tan Chong Meng's appointment is a reflection of how shallow the govt bench is.
None of the MPs or more senior ministers capable of handling the job?
One million bucks, and need to recruit outsider to help out?
