'I finally do': Bride paralysed in pool accident at bachelorette party marries love of her life in wheelchair a year later

A young woman, paralysed after a friend pushed her into a swimming pool at her bachelorette party, has finally tied the knot.
Rachelle Friedman, 25, from Knightdale, North Carolina, looked stunning in a strapless white gown - the same one she had been planning to wear before the accident that would change her life.
She had dreamed of walking down the aisle to long term love Chris Chapman, but on Friday she was wheeled down it by her father instead.
It was 14 months ago that Ms Friedman - now Mrs Chapman - hit the concrete bottom of a pool after her friend, who was a bridesmaid at the wedding, pushed her in as a joke.
'As soon as I hit the water I felt my body just kind of stiffen up,' Mrs Chapman told the Today Show. 'I just went numb. I kind of heard a crack in my neck.'
She floated to the top, face up. Her friends were already in the water to help. 'This isn't a joke,' she told them. 'Call 911.'
The bachelorette party took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia, last May, just a month before she was supposed to get married.
Finally there: The couple had been due to get married just a month after the freak accident
Welcome Mr and Mrs Chapman! The couple enter their reception 14 months after a horrific accident left Mrs Chapman paralysed
The wedding was postponed while Mrs Chapman and her fiancé Chris rebuilt their lives.
Neither she nor Mr Chapman, ever considered deserting the other however. They'd been together for almost five years when the accident happened.
'It was not, "What am I going to do?'" said Mr Chapman, 28, a middle school science teacher. 'It was, "What are we doing to do?" I just didn't know what to do next. It was one step at a time.'
Resolve: Mrs Chapman's friend had pushed her into a swimming pool as a joke, she had hit the bottom hard and knew something was seriously wrong

For months Mr Chapman carried his future wife up the stairs of their home, but after a surprise NBC makeover they can now manoeuvre around it more easily.

They also have a new car that can fit Mrs Chapman's wheelchair.

And on Friday the couple finally exchanged their hand-written vows in front of family and friends.
Mr Chapman sat opposite his wife-to-be as she sat in her wheelchair.
They then took to the dance floor while later Mrs Chapman was twirled around by her father to Sunrise Sunset.
Mrs Chapman doesn't blame the friend who pushed her, saying it was a freak accident and could have happened to anybody.

She said: 'She was tragically hurt, mentally and emotionally. And I was tragically hurt, physically.

'It's harder to deal with when you're hurt emotionally sometimes than when you're hurt physically.'
Before she was injured, Miss Friedman was a programme co-ordinator at a senior centre in Raleigh. While the job didn't pay a lot, she felt blessed to be employed right out of college, to own a home with the man of her dreams and to be planning their wedding.
Now the happy couple will enjoy a honeymoon in Fiji.

This is so sad, a joke went bad. To all the jokers out there, think before you act.

if this is a hollywood movie, the gal who push this bride into the water will seduce the husband and they take off, then the family will take care of the bride for a short time, because of the injury, she only have a few years to live, it will be a very sad movie.

I'm so touched by this act of true love..:)

11 years ago, my old polytechnic classmate was involved in an accident at Bedok North.. He was riding a motorbike on the way for his lecture when a car hit him.. The impact of the accident left him paralysed for good.. He was a good looking bugger and he was then attached to a gal.. That accident and his disability made him suffer major depression.. Even though he obtained quite a lot of sum from his insurance claim, he was still bitter about his condition.. 3 years after the accident, his GF left him abruptly.. It took him another few more years to get over the break up.. But now he is all positive about life and he has finally defeated that monster depression that has been holding him back for years.. happy for him too seeing him successful in his business and the great thing is he is getting married soon to a gal who is willing to accept his condition..:)

Yes, that Mr Chapman is a good man.
Some will just throw in the towel and said cannot cope and leave the fiancees.
She is paralyse from chest down, he still stay with her.
Unlike that rogue trade leeson, his wife drop him once he lost his high paying job.

disgusting woman who dump her husband when he has no money. choose your mate carefully, if there is possibility that she will drop you when you are down, better to dump her first.

This frame grab made from a Nov. 19, 2010 video provided by WVEC-TV shows Rachelle Friedman and Chris Chapman in Virginia Beach, Va. The North Carolina couple, say they canceled their wedding plans after the bride was paralyzed not for lack of love _ but for lack of health insurance. Friedman was paralyzed from the chest down after one of her bridesmaids shoved her into a pool just a month before her June wedding to her college sweetheart.

Paralyzed Bride Rachelle Friedman – A story of True Love and Dedication
Posted on July 18, 2011 by echilontel

Bride-to-be Rachelle Friedman and her groom, Chris Chapman, give new meaning to the marriage vows pledging to love, honor and support one’s partner “in sickness and in health.” One year after the bride was paralyzed from a freak accident during her bachelorette party, the couple will marry.

The dance instructor made news last May when during the poolside horseplay, she was pushed in the shallow end of the pool by one of her bridesmaids. She told ABC News that she knew immediately something was wrong. The 25-year-old said, ” I instantly just stopped moving.” She told her friends it wasn’t a joke and to call 9-1-1.

The bride-to-be was paralyzed from the waist down with the wedding one month away. The two postponed the wedding, but their commitment to each other remained strong. The two will finally exchange vows and honeymoon in Fiji.

Chapman, who teaches middle school science, said he never thought, “‘What am I going to do?’ It was ‘What are we going to do.’ … It was one step at a time.” The 28-year-old groom will be by his bride’s side when her father wheels her down the aisle.

The bride has refused to name the woman who caused the accident, who will also be attending the wedding. “She was tragically hurt, mentally and emotionally,” Friedman said. “And I was tragically hurt, physically.”

In the past year, Friedman has become active, learning wheelchair rugby and texting with friends using her knuckles instead of her fingers.

For his part, Chapman can’t wait to be married. “I’ll be happy and relieved to see her coming down the aisle,” he says. “It’s something we’ve been working on for quite a while.”

The two will tie the knot on Friday.
