From Oct 1, Mr Ng How Yue, Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, will be the Second Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Mr Ng, 40, the husband of PAP MP Tin Pei Ling, will replace Mrs Ow Foong Pheng, who will be appointed Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry).
Mrs Ow is the ministry's Second Permanent Secretary doing the job of Permanent Secretary when Mr Ravi Menon moved to the Monetary Authority of Singapore in April 2011 to replace managing director Heng Swee Kiat, who was entering politics.
Mr Heng is now Education Minister.

In the recent past, two PPS became Director ISD. Am a little surprised NHY didn't. But he is surely headed in the right direction coz 2nd PS appears a more promising career. The 2 previous Directors who were PPS prior to that, were only appointed PS after an ISD posting. NHY skipped this.

Actually the ISD route is for those who have clearly expressed that they have no desire to join politics. They danger of ex-ISD chap dabbling in politics is quite horrendous. It is actually more prestigious to go the ISD route. The fact that Leo did not go to ISD is evident that he will go into politics eventually.

hahaha....i wonder what is the basis of this statement....
the nos. of ex-PS that went into politics in the last 30 years is less than the nos. of fingers on 1 hand.
in short.....PS is not the usual route to go into politics.

Peter Ong was never Dir ISD. He was Dy Dir (Research). Benny was Dir but never a PPS to anybody. Was referring to Chiang Chie Foo and BL's successor, a Pang something chap.
