被告从2012年开始在瑞德律师事务所工作，但之后因这起事故导致表现欠佳，最后在2017年被要求离职，还欠下一笔债务，经济面对困难。

被告在2017年遇现任妻子后戒毒了6个月，原以为能重新开始，却在2018年2月，偶然从一文件夹里发现一张豪华房子的收据，进一步揭露前妻不但已与情郎结婚，还过着富裕的生活，而自己却“一文不值”。

律师透露，事件再次勾起他的伤痛，才会让他再陷毒海。被告在事发后，因无法控制情绪，还产生轻生迹象，最后需要入院才能稳住他的情绪，求情法官轻判。
