[TD="class: msgtxt"]This Tan Thiam Lye is the chief of the Taoist Federation of Singapore and Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple in Paya Lebar. Also PAP grassroots in Aljunied supporting George Yeo (photographed in ST during the pre-GE run up).
So is PAP now endorsing the POLITICIZATION of Presidency via the arm-twisting of an association of old men (who want to do nothing than play mahjong, drink tea and listen to opera during their twilight years) using their proxy Tan Thiam Lye ??
Since TTL is also chief of the Taoist Federation, has he overstepped his boundaries by wading into politics ?

Grassroots party activists are critical cogs in the whole GE machinery.

Not only do they ensure the nuts and bolts are taken care of, they also come with the kind of spirit to serve that I’ve never seen matched in all my years of experience of volunteerism.

Their passion and untiring efforts for the Party deserve greater recognition. However, they never look for it.

There are too many to mention by name who deserve accolades in my Eunos ward, but a few really stand out. Like my branch secretary, Mr Sim Wai Chin.

His eldest brother died suddenly just before the General Election. Despite having to make all the arrangements for the wake, he continued to help steer the campaign. His rapport with the activists on the ground meant everything went smoothly.

Time was never a problem. He and the others were always ready to jump into action, whether it was dealing with block visits or distributing pamphlets. Some thought nothing of working till past midnight.

Others I’d like to thank are my “poster” boys: Raymond Lim, Robin Tan and Lin Tze Kin (plus his Mrs), whose dedication made the difficult and onerous job of putting up posters look simple.

Then there was Mr Tan Thiam Lye, who was in charge of the lorries and van, and who threw in his Mercedes too. He did not speak much English, and we communicated through my broken Hokkien and his broken Malay.

Among the people he roped in to help was his brother and his son."

The other presidential candidates are also Tans - and they had supported this Tan to be their chief. So what say you?
