Croupier's mistake causes patrons' winnings to be forfeited

A croupier realised that he had dealt the wrong cards only after the cards had been unveiled, resulting in the patrons' winnings to be forfeited. The patrons in question protested that it was unfair for the winners to walk away with nothing, while the chips of those who had lost were taken away.
Mr Huang, a 38-year-old real estate broker complained to Lianhe Wanbao about this incident that happened in the morning of 13 September 2011. He was playing baccarat with his 32-year-old at the Marina Bay Sands Casino.
He said that there were around 10 patrons at the said baccarat table. Mr Huang and his girlfriend waged nearly $800 in a single game, $100 each between various players and dealers’ spots.
According to casino regulations, if a bet is placed on a winning pair of cards, the payout odds are 1 to 11. When the croupier revealed the cards, Mr Huang and his girlfriend thought they had won $1,100 as they had placed a bet in a spot that had a "J" pair.
It was only when the croupier proceeded to keep all the bets on the table that their excitement turned to bewilderment. When they asked the croupier why they were not paid their winnings, the croupier gave a half-hearted reply that he had dealt the wrong cards, thus deeming the game invalid.
The casino apologised for the mistake but made no mention of any compensation to the players involved.
