SINGAPORE -- Grab Holdings is in "active discussions" with regulators and potential partners to adopt autonomous vehicles, according to its chief executive, as Southeast Asia's ride-hailing leader seeks to complement its roster of drivers across the company's fast-growing markets.

During an earnings call on Thursday, CEO Anthony Tan said even in smaller markets like Singapore, there are areas that are "poorly served," and "harder to serve by human drivers," including remote areas and during peak hours.

The system is then tested for a few years and fine-tuned by the authorities before launch. LTA never did such homework for Singapore.
