I do agree that Pandas are part of the diplomatic game that China deploys. It was however telling that Singapore did not make the list.

How to have friend when Singapore is still not yet a country or nation. Even at this time, Singaporeansfeel this land doesnt belong to them anymore. We are simply stranger in the place we borned.
Lee Hsien Loong is the worst PM in this century. Even the current Thai young and handsome PM, without much political card, is able to nab North Korea illegal arms. Our mas selamat capture has to rely on Malaysia to do a good job. Yet, our leaders are all paid astranaumical salaries and perks. If this is not corruptions, what is? Give us our CPF money!

But..but.....but...we were given (at least loan) 2 pandas that only a few 'priviledged' countries can have.


Hang on a minute !!.....Costing $2M (if I remembered correctly) a year with special land to grow bamboo shoots, for 10 years then after fat fat, then give back to China, smells like a punishment to me.

If 1 or both died during the 10 year period, China will take the merlion. Hmmm....on second thought, that is a good deal for us !

How ironical!!! we fed many China people in Singapore with our taxpayers money and they happily return home or use us as stepping stone to America. Now they are sending us PANDA to be well fed and than return them in 10 years time. Why can't our stupid PAP spend taxpayers money properly by feeding our poor and needy Singaporeans instead!! Why must useless PAP kept sucking big countries people and degrade our own citizens by throwing away money to help them while they treated us invisible. Now we know we have been heavily smoked by SPH. Damned!

Checking with Google, the loan was made on 13 Nov 2009. Right at the same time when Singapore was hosting APEC conference Nov 14-15, 2009 which China is a member.

The story get juicy now. From a friend of a friend source who is helping the Chinese delegation, the Chinese do not want the Indians to be invited and attend as observers due to political rivalry and openly showed their opposition. Which is probably why the pandas were offered and not before when we already have a world class zoo for years. I find the reason plausible.
