Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said that Turkey had refused to confirm its agreement with the memorandum of flight safety in Syria and blocked a telephone hot line prior to the attack on the Russian Su-24.

Speaking about the possible use of Turkish aviation in Syria, Antonov said that the Russian air defense group in Syria makes it possible to use appropriate measures to ensure the safety of flights of Russian aircraft.

"Our air defense group allows to early detect a threat to Russian aircraft on combat missions in Syria and, if necessary, take adequate measures to ensure the security of their flights," RIA Novosti quoted Antonov as saying.

He also added that Turkey should fully adhere to the provisions of the Russian-US memorandum of flight safety in the Syrian Arab Republic, should Turkey use its aviation in Syria.

Erdogan is another despot who will kill his citizens to hold on to power

Russians are bombing Turkmen in Syria. It's like china allowing US to bomb Taiwanese or hangkies. It's not acceptable although considered foreign territory.

2016 may be a good year to see all the advanced missiles to work hard instead of Cho Boh Lan idol. ;)

Russia’s new-generation Su-35 fighter jets will be on round-the-clock duty at the Latakia base in Syria, ready to take off at a minute's notice to provide cover for aerial operations in the area, a spokesman for the Russian forces in Syria said.

According to the Russian Air Space Forces group spokesman in Syria, there will always be two Su-35 jets ready to take off in just 60 seconds at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base in Latakia. The fighter jets will provide cover for Russian aircraft and increase their total field of view.

In the air, two Su-35s can provide a 360-degree field of view with coverage ranging to 400 kilometers, the spokesman said. He also mentioned that the Su-35 is a multirole fighter jet capable of providing air cover for the strike aircraft and strike surface targets as well as subsurface ones.

The jets are capable of locating, tracking and hitting up to eight targets at once, the spokesman noted, adding that Su-35s are equipped with advanced active jamming stations rendering them ‘invisible’ to the enemy.

“Now, our task is to use [the capabilities of the Su-35 jets] to the maximum. We will use every weapon that [these fighter jets] are equipped with. They can be equipped with any type of air bombs with combat loads up to eight tons,” the spokesman said.

Su-35s were deployed to Syria and performed their first combat missions last week, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday, TASS reports.

Earlier, the Khmeimim Air Base had accommodated Russian Air Force squadrons of Su-27 and Su-30 fighter jets, Su-34 and Su-24 tactical bombers, and Su-25 attack aircraft. Additionally, in November 2015, Russia deployed a unit of its cutting-edge S-400 air defense systems to the base after a Russian Su-34M bomber was shot down by the Turkish Air Force in Syrian airspace.

S-400s are designed to ensure air defense using long and medium-range missiles that can hit aerial targets, including tactical and strategic aircraft as well as ballistic and cruise missiles, at ranges of up to 400 kilometers.

The Russian Navy has a maritime task force off the Syrian coast, including the Vice-Admiral Kulakov missile destroyer, to provide air defense and naval support.

Within the span of 300 years, there were 12 Russian - Turkish wars, the longest of them lasted for 6 years between 1676–1681. It is going to happen again nothing be be surprised at all.

From what I can see, Turkey is the permanent pain in the ass for Moscow, unless it is conquered or eliminated permanently. The reason being as fundamental as Geographic Maps.

Black Sea is strategic bottle-neck by Istanbul and Turkey which chocks Russia apart from Mediterranean and the rest of the world, it is the vital shipping route for Russia, because all other routes are too cold in winter and may freeze besides being much longer in consumption of ship fuel and time. This is why, and this is literally PAIN IN Moscow's Ass.

Strategically Turkey is the piece of of shit that plugged Moscow's anus in terms of sea routes, so there is no wonder why they had 12 wars in the past 3 centuries.

If Putin wants to solve this problem for all future Russian citizens, he should just nuke and annex Istanbul like he did in Ukraine, nothing else, nothing lesser than this will work adequately. Let me put it very simple and straight. This is a geographical and historically proven fact that can not be denied nor argued. US and NATO are already too weak to do anything about Russia, both economically and military wise. Putin need not be so kind at all.

In a strategically similar way, Singapore & Straits of Malacca is a choke point between Indian and Pacific Ocean. In order to secure strategic interest similarly, SG is to be nuke and occupied, to stop it from being pain in the ass for Beijing. Simple plain fact, all otherwise are unrealistic.

Syria says any foreign aggressors will go home 'in coffins'

Syria will resist any ground incursion into its territory and send the aggressors home "in coffins", its foreign minister said on Saturday, in comments clearly aimed at Sunni Arab countries that have said they were ready to join such an operation.

BEIRUT: Syria will resist any ground incursion into its territory and send the aggressors home "in coffins", its foreign minister said on Saturday, in comments clearly aimed at Sunni Arab countries that have said they were ready to join such an operation.

Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem also told a news conference a ceasefire in the Syria conflict would be virtually impossible while rebels opposed to President Bashar al-Assad's government were able to pass freely across the borders with Turkey and Jordan.

"Any ground intervention onto Syrian land without the agreement of the Syrian government is an act of aggression ...and we regret that those (who do so) will return to their countries in coffins," he said.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, both ruled by Sunni Muslim monarchies, said this week they were ready to participate in any ground operations in Syria if the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq decides to start such operations.

"I don't think they will do what they say about using ground forces, but at the same time, when I look at their crazy decisions made not just in Yemen but in other areas nothing can be ruled out," Moualem said, alluding to a Saudi-led military campaign against Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Moualem also cited Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov who recently said a ceasefire in Syria was very unlikely until the borders with Turkey and Jordan have been sealed.

Rebel groups fighting Assad have received supplies via both Turkey and Jordan. Russia's military intervention in the Syrian conflict in support of Assad has helped Damascus to reclaim territory previously lost to rebels.
