The Pickering family just celebrated a miracle… and right in time for Christmas.*With doctors getting ready to turn off his “brain-dead” son’s life-support, George Pickering did the only thing he could: he brought his gun into the hospital and defended his son from the doctors… until he felt his son squeeze his hand. Knowing that his son was well, he surrendered to the police.

For his bravery, or alcohol-induced insanity, he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.



His son, 27-year-old George III was declared brain dead after suffering a massive stroke in January. After doctors simply declared that there was no hope left for him, they ordered that life support be slowly withdrawn from him- ending his life.

Pickering Sr however had faith in his son; he said to*KPRC: ‘They were moving too fast. The hospital, the nurses, the doctors. I knew if I had three or four hours that night that I would know whether George was brain-dead.’

‘During that three hours, George squeezed my hand three or four times on command,‘ he said.

“Towards the end of the standoff, which was about three hours long, he felt his son squeeze his hand,” the family’s lawyer Phoebe Smith told RT.

“At this time, the SWAT team had already opened the door to the critical care room and he had surrendered to the police, but he surrendered knowing his son had squeezed his hand,” she added.*“The SWAT team had their own doctors and when they entered into the critical care room, they saw that my client’s son was not brain dead because he was making eye contact, was following their commands and they were completely amazed at this.”

He was sentenced to 10 months in prison, though*the charges against him were eventually reduced and he was released earlier this month- just in time for Christmas.

His son said: ‘There was a law broken, but it was broken for all the right reasons.

‘I’m here now because of it. It was love, it was love.’

Knowing what I know about the constitution, we are supposed to protect our family. Deadly force can be used to protect the death of a family member. This is the best advertisement of why we need not to allow our second amendment to be tampered with or infringed upon. Ben Franklin said it best, something like, giving up your rights for a little safety, one deserves neither.

It depends on the particular state laws. Clearly, the patient was NOT brain dead in this situation. People do not recover from brain death. In FL, brain death is covered by its own statute [382.009] No consent is required. Non-brain death life- support issues are governed by Fla Stat 765 where consent is required, either from person designated as a Health Care Surrogate for the patient or a Living Will signed by the patient indicating his wishes.

‘Brain dead’ son enjoys Xmas after dad armed with gun refuses to let medics end his life

The Pickering family from Texas is celebrating a miracle this Christmas, which so nearly did not happen. With doctors about to turn off a life support machine keeping George Pickering’s son alive, a desperate and armed George intervened, determined his son would live.
This year has been an eventful one for George Pickering II and his son George Pickering III. George Jr. has made a full recovery after being in a coma. With doctors set to turn off his life support machine, his savior proved to be his own father.

Upon hearing that doctors had given up hope, a drunk and armed George Sr. marched towards the Tomball Regional Medical Center in Houston, Texas, determined to make sure his son was given more time to make a recovery, even if it meant he would spend time in jail.

George Sr. barricaded himself inside with his 27-year-old son as he managed to hold off police, before something amazing happened.

George Jr. had fallen into a coma after suffering a stroke in January. Doctors had declared him brain dead, while George II’s ex-wife and other son made the decision to turn off the life support machine.

However, there was one person who was not going to give up hope.

“The SWAT team had their own doctors and when they entered into the critical care room, they saw that my client’s son was not brain dead because he was making eye contact, was following their commands and they were completely amazed at this,” Smith added.*

The Pickerings' family lawyer also praised the courage and determination shown by George Sr.*

“The amazing thing was that my client was right and that his son did survive. When you see him now, he is a picture of health. I don’t think he would have survived but for the fact that his father slowed the process down."

After feeling signs of life from his son, George Sr. peacefully surrendered to the police. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 months’ prison time. He was released in December, just in time to spend Christmas with his son.

“There was a law broken, but it was broken for all the right reasons. I’m here now because of it. It was love, it was love,” George III told KPRC.

“The important thing is I'm alive and well, my father is home and we're together again.”

In January, George Pickering III, son of George Pickering II was declared brain dead due to a*major stroke.*The medical experts left all hopes on him, but George Pickering II (father) decided to handle with his own hand. For the purpose, he marched into Tomball Regional Medical Center with a gun. When police arrived, the father lost his control and threatened hospital staff in a locked room for an hour.



Pickering says,

“They were saying he was brain dead, he was a vegetable,”

The health officials at Tomball Regional Medical Center ordered a ‘terminal wean’. ‘Terminal Wean’ is a process, where an individual life put to an end by slowly removing his life support.They even informed organ donation organization about George Pickering III as a donor. When all of this was going through, George Pickering II believed that his son still has a chance to live.

Probably, George Pickering II ensured that his son will get an extra hour*of life support. As a result, George Pickering III is still alive and in a healthy state.

A few months back,*he has been charged with two main acts. For his aggregated assault with a*weapon, George Pickering II was sentenced to*jail. After spending many months in the*jail, Pickering*returned back home in December. Due to his son’s medical condition, George Pickering II breaks all law. At last, father*surrended*and police took him to custody.
