A school in Malaysia was reportedly forced to close its doors after sightings of a mysterious “figure” caused fear and panic among students and teachers.
According to the BBC, the sightings began last week at SKM Pengkalan Chepa 2, a school in the city of Kota Bharu, a seven-hour drive northwest of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
Multiple students and teachers in the school reported having strange visions, supernatural experiences and encountering “spirits.”
One vision in particular, that of a mysterious “figure,” was seen multiple times.
One teacher told Astro Awani, a local news channel, that she felt a heavy presence hanging over her before seeing the “black figure.”
Officials closed the school last Thursday, reopening it on Sunday after multiple “exorcisms.” But Free Malaysia Today reported that screams could still be heard from the school.
Robert Bartholomew, a sociologist, told the BBC that the incident was a textbook case of “mass hysteria.”
