Boeing has no new orders for commercial aircraft for two consecutive months, and there are still about 5,000 passenger aircraft backlog orders
Bu Xiaoming / Economic Reference
US media reported on the 11th that the US Boeing Company did not receive new orders for civilian passenger aircraft in May. This is the second consecutive month that Boeing has not received a commercial aircraft order.
CNN reported that the volume of commercial airliner orders was not enough, not only because of the grounding or no-flying crisis of the 737 MAX series aircraft, but also because Boeing still had a backlog of about 5,000 passenger aircraft. Some customers now do not need to order additional aircraft.
In addition, the Paris Air Show will be held next week. Boeing and its European competitor Airbus typically prefer to announce new orders on this occasion, and orders growth in May tends to be slower. Even so, in May 2018, before the Paris Air Show last year, Boeing seized orders for 43 aircraft, 21 of which were 737 MAX.
One of the Indonesian Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 aircraft crashed in October last year and March this year, killing 346 people.
Both air crashes were associated with a "kineo feature enhancement system" automatic anti-stall software error start on the passenger aircraft. This model was subsequently grounded and banned on a global scale.
CNN reported that Boeing continued to produce this series of passenger aircraft during the 737 MAX flight, but the production speed slowed down.
Boeing canceled 71 orders for 737 MAX aircraft in May, but the cancellation was not related to the suspension or no-fly of this model. These orders are from Jet Airways. The Indian operator stopped operating in April this year because it did not get enough emergency financing from the bank.
Boeing said in a statement on the 11th: "In view of the current situation of this airline, we have canceled the contract agreement for those aircraft."
The grounding or no-fly of the 737 MAX aircraft also caused the delivery of this series of passenger aircraft to stop delivery, seriously affecting Boeing's overall delivery last month. Most of the cash that Boeing sells is from aircraft delivery. Boeing delivered 30 commercial aircraft in May, down from 68 in the same period last year.
The air crash associated with the 737 MAX aircraft has cast a psychological shadow on the American public. According to a poll released by the American Atmospheric Research Group this month, at least 20% of Americans will resolutely avoid taking this series of aircraft within six months after the Boeing 737 MAX.
