There are times when we have make a grammatical mistake here and there, and have been subject to rightful mockery.

It is the inevitable baggage that comes with getting paid to write on a public space.

One of the more notable critics of English in recent months has been the aptly titled Facebook page "Singaporean Influencers and Bloggers Write SHIT English and are Annoying AF" or SIBWSEA.

The page mostly skewers blog posts they deem to have less than ideal English.

An example is their December 19 post on Seth-Lui.com, a food blog.

Here is a hallmark of SIBWSEA's style, pick out an excerpt from an article, and highlight the problems with it.

Excerpt

"Each worked in tandem to balance the other out; sweet from the dressing to distract spicy from the Tomyam powder and sour from the lime to censor out excessive sweetness. It was a good choice to have this first to incite our palate for the remainder of the meal. I definitely recommend everyone to order this in their first time here."

Critique

1) 'Censor'? You mean 'balance'.

2) 'Incite'? This isn't a riot or a revolution.

3) 'in their first time here'? 'On their first time here'!

Excerpt

"I like how 1933 has a niche in continually able to create dips/sauces with multiple dimensions into them."

Critique

'a niche in continually able to create'.... what? 狗屁不通。(Translation: Your attempt at communication is like a dog having constipation.)

Damn.

Seth Lui's response

Seth Lui, the man behind the website, Seth-Lui.com, apparently took offense to their critique.

Well, SIBWSEA, picked up on that recently, and posted this rather more direct response.

A good chunk of Lui's comments consisted of people standing up for the right to point out grammatical mistakes.

The comment section of SIBWSEA, understandably so, also agreed with the act of pointing out less than ideal English.
