The New York fire department has dispatched dozens of units and over 120 firefighters to tackle a four-alarm blaze that erupted on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in Manhattan.
One person has died after suffering serious injuries in the blaze, while four firefighters received non-life-threatening injuries, the New York City fire department said. FDNY crews were called to the 50th floor of the building on Fifth Avenue shortly before 6pm Saturday.

Thirty-six units and 126 firefighters responded to the four-alarm fire. People have been evacuated from the building.

The extent and the severity of the fire was not immediately clear. “Smoke and debris,” one eyewitness wrote next to his video post of the fire, which shows smoke rising above Manhattan.

“Fire dept throwing anti-flame powder. Seems controlled, though with semi-extensive damage to floor and at least three offices,” Michael Lukiman noted.

“My Navy friend Kent Sasagawa and I had been in the tower minutes before, as some personnel rushed by us into the Fire Command room. We thought nothing of it,” Michael Lukiman said on Twitter. “Walking out and around the block, we saw people spectating. Looking up, the flames just started to appear.”

Melania Trump and Barron Trump are both in Washington, DC, according to the first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, NBC New York reports. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump reassured the guests at his iconic Manhattan building, tweeting that the fire was “very confined” and is now “out.”

“Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!” Trump tweeted.

New York City Fire Department.

The person who died was a resident of the building's 50th floor who had been taken to the hospital in critical condition, department spokeswoman Angelica Conroy told CNN.
The victim was a 67-year-old man who was unconscious and unresponsive when firefighters pulled him out, the New York Police Department said, adding the medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
The fire was contained to the 50th floor of the tower, located on Fifth Avenue in New York. It was ruled under control around 9 p.m., about two hours after it was originally reported, the FDNY said in a tweet.
The six firefighters injured had non-life threatening injuries, Conroy said.
No members of the Trump family were at the tower during the fire, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. President Donald Trump tweeted before the news of the death that the fire was out and "very confined" in the "well built building" and congratulated the firefighters.

His son, Eric Trump, also congratulated the firefighters before news of the death, saying "the @FDNY and @NYPD are truly some of the most incredible people anywhere!"

The fire at Trump Tower comes three months after a minor fire broke out in a cooling tower on the roof of the building, according to CNN affiliate WCBS-TV. Two people were injured in the fire that officials said may have been caused by electrical heaters inside the cooling tower.
CNN's Gabriela Milan reported from New York and Amir Vera wrote in Atlanta. CNN's Tony Marco, Polo Sandoval and Linh Tran contributed to this report.

Crews responded Saturday evening to a fire at Trump Tower in New York that killed one man and injured four firefighters, city officials said.

The man, 67, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was taken to a hospital but later died of his injuries, said Officer George Tsourovakas, a New York Police Department spokesman. An investigation is under way.

Four firefighters also were injured as they battled the blaze on the 50th floor, including two who were burned. Their injuries are not life threatening, according to New York City Fire Department officials.

The fire started in a large apartment on the 50th floor, and when firefighters responded about 5:30 p.m. ET, the entire unit was engulfed, said Daniel Nigro, commissioner of the New York City Fire Department.

► Sept. 19: 3 congressmen arrested outside Trump Tower in DREAM Act protest

"Members pushed in heroically. They were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment," he said, adding crews had a hard time battling the fire because it was up 50 stories and in a large unit.

About 200 firefighters and emergency medical services officials were called to the scene, Nigro said.

New York City did not mandate sprinklers in every unit and common hallways of new residential buildings until March 1999 when then-Mayor Rudy Giulini signed council legislation. That was well after the opening of Trump Tower in February 1983.

The upper floors of Trump Tower, which are have 263 apartments, do not have sprinklers, Nigro told Spectrum News NY1, the 24-hour cable-TV news channel that serves New York's five boroughs.

Before moving to the White House, the tower that President Trump developed was his main home. He and his family own an apartment, which Forbes estimated as being more than 10,000 square feet and spans three floors.

Trump's penthouse is on floors labeled 66 through 68, meaning the fire occurred more than 10 levels below Trump's home. The tower really has 58 floors.

While in the building, crews checked on Trump's home, which was unharmed, Nigro said. Smoke had spread throughout much of the building but it was unclear if any seeped into Trump's penthouse.

No members of the first family were in the building during the incident, he said.

Onlookers outside Trump Tower took photos and video of the blaze as it grew, flames and smoke billowing from several high-rise windows. Some footage showed debris falling hundreds of feet to the street.

The president tweeted about the blaze, commending the firefighters who responded. He said the fire had been extinguished but fire officials remained at the scene for several hours due to the heavy smoke.

"Fire at Trump Tower is out," he wrote. "Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!"

The first 19 floors of the building are commercial businesses, according to The New York Times. Much of the rest of the building is used as homes, but the high prices mean that celebrities and the city's elite are the ones who can afford to live there.

The tower has a history of attracting some high-profile tenants, including Michael Jackson, Johnny Carson and Bruce Willis. Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign manager who is facing charges in the special prosecutor's probe, is one apartment owner.

Eric Trump, one of the president's sons who also helps head The Trump Organization with headquarters in the tower, tweeted out his thanks to firefighters who tamed the fire.

"Thank you to the amazing men and women of the NYFD who extinguished a fire in a residential apartment at @TrumpTower," Eric Trump posted on Twitter. "The @FDNY and @NYPD are truly some of the most incredible people anywhere!"

In January, another fire at Trump Tower injured three people, two civilians and a firefighter. It started in the building's rooftop heating and air conditioning system and left smoke billowing from the roof.

All the injuries then were not life threatening.

NEW YORK (AFP, NYTIMES)- An elderly man died late Saturday (April 7) after a blaze erupted on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in New York which also injured four firefighters, officials said.

The New York Police Department said the 67-year-old man was found “unconscious and unresponsive” when officers arrived at the scene of the fire.

The man was pronounced dead after being taken to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital, according to police, which said the medical examiner’s office would determine the cause of death as part of an ongoing investigation.

“This was a very difficult fire. As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up. The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke,” the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said.

It said the four firefighters had “non-life threatening” injuries and that the blaze had been brought “under control”.

Smoke began rising from the skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan around 6.00 pm.

Streets surrounding the building owned by US President Donald Trump that serves as the headquarters for The Trump Organisation and houses the president’s penthouse were closed off as tourists snapped pictures on their phones.

Trump, who was in Washington at the time, said in a Twitter post that the fire had been extinguished, attributing its confinement to the tower's construction.

Officials restricted passers-by from the area directly in front of the tower, keeping them out of the street and on the sidewalk on the opposite side of Fifth Avenue.

A 76-year-old resident who was still in the tower said the episode reminded her of the 9/11 attacks.

"When I saw the television, I thought we were finished," said the woman, Lalitha Masson, who lives on the 36th floor with her husband, Narinder, who is 79 and has Parkinson's disease.

"I started praying," Masson continued. "That this was our end. I called my oldest son and said goodbye to him because the way it looked everything was falling out of the window, and it reminded me of 9/11. I witnessed that, and this looked like that the way the fire was raging from the windows. It was a very, very terrifying experience." She said that she did not get any announcement about leaving and that when she called the front desk no one answered.

Dennis Shields, a resident who said he lived on the 42nd floor, described the scene.

"You could smell the smoke, and you could hear things falling like through the vents," he said. "It just smelled like sulphur."

He said there were no orders to evacuate but he received a text message from Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen.

Shields, who said he grew up with Cohen, continued: "He said, 'Are you in the building?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'You better get out ASAP.' That's how I knew to get out, otherwise I'd still be in there."

The fire was probably started by some liberal retard. Unable to topple Trump from the Presidency they are now trying the next best thing which is to burn his house down.

Trump Tower fire is second 2018 blaze in sprinkler-free residential tower

The fire on the 50th floor New York City's Trump Tower that left 67-year-old Todd Brassner dead and six firefighters injured was the second fire in the building in 2018 — President Trump's centerpiece Manhattan skyscraper built that opened in 1984, but which does not have sprinklers on its residential floors. FDNY commissioner Daniel Nigro noted on Saturday that the upper, residential floors of Trump Tower do not have sprinklers — a measure required in new buildings since 1999, but which President Trump, then a private citizen and property developer, lobbied to try and prevent.

New York City in 1999 became last big city in the nation to require sprinklers, according to the New York Daily News. Under the 1999 legislation, buildings constructed before then were only required to have sprinklers if they underwent gut renovations.

According to The New York Times, Mr. Trump was one of the developers in the late 1990s who lobbied against sprinklers in buildings. He then recanted once the legislation passed with grandfathering provisions that meant existing buildings did not need to install them, saying that he understood they made residents "feel safer." Commissioner Nigro said on Saturday that there is extra fire protection at Trump Tower when Mr. Trump is there.

Then New York city mayor and now staunch Trump ally Rudy Giuliani signed the bill requiring sprinklers into force on March 24, 1999, having opposed it when it was first proposed in 1997. The legislation was spurred on by a major fire in a so-called "fireproof" apartment block with no sprinklers on New York's Upper West Side the previous December, and another in a Brooklyn housing project the same month in which hallway sprinklers failed. Survivors wanted all buildings to have sprinklers, but the legislation that was passed was not retrospective, much to the delight of existing property owners who cited cost as a major reason not to be compelled to retrofit their buildings. At the time the legislation was being discussed, Mr. Trump had just started construction on a 72-story tower near the United Nations, and he subsequently said he would install sprinklers there at a cost of $3 million.

Saturday's fire is the second fire in Mr. Trump's 5th Avenue building this year: Two civilians suffered minor injuries and a firefighter was hurt by debris in a fire on Jan. 8.The Jan. 8 fire on the top of the building was an electrical fire, Mr. Trump's son, Eric, said at the time. Eric Trump said the fire had been in a cooling tower.

Nigro said in a press conference that the cause of Saturday's fire is still unclear.

Mr. Trump tweeted shortly after the fire broke out that his building is "well-built." Nigro agreed at the press conference that it's a "well-built building."

"The building sure stood up quite well," Nigro said. There is considerable smoke damage to the upper floors. Nigro said units checked Mr. Trump's residence on the upper floors.

Neither Mr. Trump or any of his family were in the building at the time of the fire. Mr. Trump and his wife, Melania, were at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night. Eric Trump lives in the nearby Trump Parc building, which is located on Central Park South.

While it's unclear how many fires have been at the building since it opened in 1984, a severe fire in 1982 set construction back two months, according to amNewYork.
