Don't confuse the superstitious Old Testament of the parochial Hebrews and their vengeful jealous tribal god with the New Testament which chronicles Jesus' teachings of the love of God.
Jesus came to overthrow all the old Hebrew laws - circumcision, Bar Mitzvah, not working on the Sabbath, not eating pork, stoning of female adulterers, bloody temple sacrifices, a tooth for a tooth, etc. The Jews were obsessed with outer observances so Jesus told them: "The Kingdom of God is within you." Salvation comes from inner transformation and attunement with God, not from outer rituals and observances.
If Islam had based their Quran and hadith on the New Testament instead of the Old, we'd have a very different Islam today, one where practitioners look within and attune themselves to God instead of focussing on outer observances of food, attire, ritualistic prayer and rigid adherence to the letter of the scriptures rather than the spirit. The sad fact is that today's Muslims have taken over the mantle of vengeful bloodshed and violence from the ancient Hebrews. Today's Jews are no better either.
